Gatorback Cycle Park · scored a pair of fourths in the two 250cc A motos. Up-and-coming local sta r Jarrett Tipp ing d irected his Suzuki to the overall win in the 63-rider 125cc B Intermedia te division. Tipping wo n both his heat race and the all-im portant second and fina l mota that combined the top heat racefinis hers. Team Green fas tboys Cha rles Dunaw ay an d Brock Sellards ran second and third overall, respectively. . Th e Ohio-based ama teur star won both motos, including the final mota match-up agains t heat race winner and 125cc B champion Jarrett Tippin g . Third overall went to New Jersey racer William Snook. Mississipp i's Chris Craft was on top of the 51-rider 25+ class at the end of the day; pushing hi s Yam ah a to two race w in s. Lee Dusche r an d Flo rida's own ' John Lundy ran second and third, respective ly. Yama ha- mo unted Lee McIlvaine was fastest in the 50-rider Vet 30+ class, achieving two so lid mot a wi ns on his way to the' overall. Ohio's Mark Beamer raced hisSuzuki into the runner-up positio n w ith Honda-mo un ted John Lundy thir d. Georgia' s Gary Graham won the 35+ class with two race wins of his own while Max Marsh ofMichigan placed seco n d overal l. Ano the r Mi ch iganer, Kawasaki-mounted Barry Mayo, was the Sen io r 40 + winner ahead of Yamahamounted Wadd y Strickland and 24 other gen tlemen. Accordi ng to some locals, the las t little minicyclist to jump the Dinner Table wi th any consistency was Rick y Carmichael hi mself. Local rival Paul Perebijnos was second overall in the 29-rider class with Kawasa ki-mounted Kyle Williamson third . In the Pee Wee classes, South Carolina's Jake Griffis topped the 51cc Stock (78) class wi th two runner-up rides. Neither of the mota winners - LEM-mounted Jeffrey Lucide an d Cobra-moun ted David Milsaps - could back up their wins wi th a nother strong finish . Flo ri d a ' s ow n Michael Lozaw was. second (3-3) with Milsaps th ird (1-5). GAINF5VILLE, FL, MAR. 2 o me o f the b est young racers in America turned out for the Am ateur Day motocross at Gatorback Cycle Park in Gainesville, Florida, but the majority of the day's trophies were handed out to local talent. Amateur N ational Champi on Ricky Carmichael dominated two cla sses aboard his Te am Green Kawasakis, defending Junior Minicycle Ch ampion Trav is Pastrana did a number on the 85cc (7-11) class, and rising nine-year-old star James Stewart contro lled the 65cc class. The Gainesville course is itself a mainstay on the Amateur National MX tour, hostin g the annual Winter Olym pics, a round of the Florida Winter-AMA Series and numerous other events. Cu t into the chalky walls of an old limestone quarry, the track used to be a rough, sandy loop. The yea rs have taken mu ch of the sa nd away, leaving riders faced with an equally challen ging hard-pack su rface . With course manager Mark Barnett's added supercrosss flavor, the track could best be described as "quasi-stadium. " A full pit area of racers ma de for some short practice and mota sessions as heat races h ad to be used in mo re the ha lf classes to nar row them down to 4O-bike final motos. Even with the early start the Worl d Sports crew barely go t all of the races under the checkered flag before dusk fell on the north central Florida facility. In both classes Kawasaki teamm ate Shae Bentley of Georgia followed him across th e checkered flag . Th ird in th e Mini class went to fellow Floridian Augus t Lausberg, w hil e Honda-mounted Adam Rake ran third in the Schoolboy class. Local minicycle talen t Rober t Farnell ran 2-1 in the 85cc (12-13) class to secure the overall win on his Yamaha. Georgia 's Aaro n Lindsay was second overall, having swapped mota w ins with Farnel l. Thir d went to New Yorker Paul Carpenter . " It ce rta inl y w a sn 't a s ea sy as i t looked," said the l l -year-old Pastrana of his 85cc (7-11) class victory. "James Stewart was riding really well at the beginn ing third. The winner of the 13-rider Super Pee Wee class was the Cobra-mounted Griffis. Two-m ota winner Paul Currie was the best of the 125cc A class, gui ding h is Kawa saki in to the winner 's circle ahead of Massachusetts ' Tony Lorusso in the fir s t mota an d Pennsylvania's James Evans in the finale. But it was the steady 4-4 score of Suzuki- mounted local Jason Sybert that was second best in the overall tally. Evans, ninth in the first mota, was third overall based on his seco nd mot a outing. Michigan's Matt Crown was the 250cc A class winner after swapping mota wins with the Su zuki-mo unted Sy bert. Crown' s victory in the tie-breaking final mota gave him th e n od in th e final resul ts. Third overall wen t to Pennsylvania' s Mike McDonald, a Suzuki rider who James Eva ns (Ka w); 4.
