The Norton single -cylinder s pecialist has visited from England numerous times in recent years, often enough, in fact, to earn the 1993 cham pionships in those two classes. An d Rogers d id it a g a in at AHRM A' s p re -Da y to na warm u p nation al, usin g his 1937 Norton 500 to d omin at e Class C and Pre-'40. Rogers may also have given yet anoth er group of AHRMA ra cers ca use for con cern. Aboard a '6 6 Ducati 250, he laid was te to the 250 Grand Prix fie ld and even plac ed a credible third on the same bike in 350 GP behind David Roper on the Team Ob solet e Benelli 350-4 a n d Barb er Vin tage Mot orsports' Charles Huneycutt 0 11 a n ex t r e me ly fast Honda CBn. Rogers rou nded out hi s day with a fourth in Premier 500, this time on a '56 Norto n Man x. With over 450 en tries in a fu ll complemen t of vintage, Sound of Si ngles, Battle of Twi ns and Bri tish-Eu ropeanA merica n Raci ng Serie s (BEARS) classes, it was a very full day of racing, Fortu nately, the wea ther coopera ted a nd mish ap s were kept to a mi nimum. No one eve n came close to Rogers in the Pre-' 40, Class C or 250 GP ra ces. In Pre -'40, it looked as though there might be a battle of the Indians over se cond p lac e between Blak e Wil son and GMA Ra ci ng ' s Rusty Lowry. Wilson also had been battling w ith Triu m p h rider Gordon Menzie for second in Class C befo re the Indian Racin g Products rider 'd ropped off the pace somewh at and in to third. The scrap behind Stewart in 250 GP was between Bultaco rid er Jim Neu enburg an d Ma ico -m oun te d Sv en Bley , with Ne uenburg han ging onto second when the checked flag flew . Former Daytona 200 wi n ner Do n Emd e found Barber's Beale G50 replica to his liking and spe nt the Classic Sixties race fend ing o ff British classic-raci ng ch a mp io n John Cre nshaw, aboar d a Team Ob solet e Matchless G50. On th e fina l lap, ho wever, Cronshaw man aged to get past Emde for the win. Fred Mork was third on his ex-Dick Mann G5O. Another extremely close one was the Formula 500 battle between class champ Rick Merhar and Dave Rosn o. Mer har and his '70 Yam aha TR3 ne ver rel in quished the lead to Rosno's Ho nda . Just as tigh t behind th em was the race for th ird throu gh fifth, involving Geo rge Oiegar , Stev e Ca nellos an d Pa ul Ga rland. While Van Dijk went out late in the race, Weir kep t the pressure on Cathcart all the way to the fin ish. Enzinger held on for third. In th e combined BoT Open and F2 race, David Kieffer had no trouble winning the unlimited di vision on his Ferracci Ducati 955. The man who was really on the move, thou gh, was defending F2 cham p Michael Myers, who had his Du cati 750 all the way u p to se co nd overall by rac e end. Mo to Guzzi rider Pet e Johnson held down seco nd in F2, scraping , the Yamahas of clas s cha mp Larry Kirby and Mike Eiland set a rap id pac e. The two trad ed ow ne rshi p of third place on more than one occasio n, wi th the veteran DuHamel p reva iling at th e e nd . DuH am el a lso rode the Duck to the vintage F750 win. In AHRMA' s inaugu ral BEARS race, Van Dijk piloted a Gilex 670 to the win over Myers and Johnson.
