Price takes two more at Motorama Short Track By Len Breech HARRISBURG, PA,FEB. 17 As he has don e at the pre vious three runnings of the sho rt track portion of the Motorama ind oor races and speed show, Georgi e Price again took top spots in the 250 and 600cc Pro finals. Also takin g a pair was his uncle, Bob Sweet en, in the 600cc A and Veteran finals, while seca nd -gene ra tion rid er Bru ce Ingram continued his learning cu rv e wi th w ins in the 80 and 250cc 8 at th e 17th an n ua l Eas te rn Harley-Davidson Dealers Association / Trail-Wa y Speed way spo nso re d Motoram a. Other win ners were Pa u l Lynch just holding off Sweet en in the 250cc A final, Jeff McManus a nd Jared Mees shared the 50cc wins and Jeff Sassaman topped the 600cc B class . Aft er ge lling cau gh t slee p ing on th e firs t 600cc Pro start, Kevin Varn es made the most of th e restart by bla sting into the lead ah ead of Price, Ken Yoder and Phil Libhart . Varn es blocked Pri ce's moves to the ins id e for almost half the race, so Price p ut his Mor oney' s H· D / Pop Sweeten-sponsored Rota x. on the hi gh groove and passed Varn es for the lead on the outside of the smaIL tight oval on the sixth lap . After starting on the penalty line, Mike Varn es worked into fourth by the white-flag lap .. Price took the win followed by Kevin Varnes, Yoder, Mike Varnes and Libhart. Kevin and Mike Varnes led Price at the start of the 250cc Pro race, wi th Mike taking the lead briefly at the end of th e second lap, but Pric e took the lead for good in the same spo t on the next lap, setting up the top three finishers. Sweeten's wins were both fairly easy, as he led Ricky Winsett, Mike Klopp and Paul lynch the entire wa y in the 600cc A class, with lynch getting by Klopp on the fourth lap for third. The outcome of the Veteran finale was the sa me, except Paul Cru mling and lowell Wher ley battled over second in the late lap s. D~ Springsteen slides to Muskegon Ice Race win' By Grace DiBenedetto MUSKEGO MI, FEB. 18 N, Chu ck Springsteen topped off the Mu ske gon M.C: s indoor ice racing seaso n with a win and a second consecutive championship title at Walker Arena . Th e Dad /Wayne Proffers /Cummin gs H· D /B yron Molleseau /Sam Bisbee / Tamm y and leroy / R.C. Trucking / an d Meg acycl e Ca msspons ored Springsteen gave up on ly on e win d uring the nigh t's round -robin format , and that was to Bryan Villella in round tw o. Severa l multi-bike pileup s necessitated three restarts to comp lete the final, and while all the riders survived, a coup le bikes looked worse for the wear, including Villella's Jack Mayer-built Suzuki. Springsteen's vict ory in Heat se ven would touch off a winning streak that would last for the rest of the night. Brian Hardin then se wed up the checkered flag off the green light in Heat · eight leaving Est ep and Villella to take each BURLESON, IX, FEB. 12 Mark Thompson, was the "man with a plan" as e he raced to a four -mot e-sw e p .that yielded him two-class wins in both the 8O<;c Senior and Open events at the Burleson Motocross Park. Thompson proved to be heavy off the gate as he grabbed the holeshot and led the class from sta rt to fin ish, leaving Scotty Trimble in his roost. Moto one saw Scott Dietert race in thi rd, unable- to catch the two leaders, but was able to fend off James Marshall for two laps before Marshall met his demise in the bowl sweeper off the start of la p three. Adam Powers and Taylor Watts then chased Dietert to the checkered flag to cap off the top five spots . Thompson once again got out front from the get-go in moto two, with Trim ble breathing his dust all the way. Powers slipped into third early in the race and defended his position to Ma rshall, until Marshall passed on the third lap and kep t the numbe r-three spot a t the finish line. Watts also tried his "West Texas best" to gain on Powers, passin g on the last lap for fourt h place, an d pu shin g Powers back to fifth and a fou rth overall. Wat ts' las t-lap maneu ver yielded him th ird ove ra ll beh ind class winner Thompson, and Trimble, wh o claimed seco nd with a 2-2 tally. .Q u in n Harris a nd Andrew lansin g race d their Pee Wee bikes in separate classes for overall win s. Ha rris w as the top man in the 50cc Mod ified event, while lansin g took the win in the SOcc Stock divi sion . Jimmy lay chased [an sing in the first moto of the Stock even t, but was absent in mo ta two to defend his overall finish . Dustin Show s, who finished third in mota one, held on to the number -two spo t in the second moto for second overall. Adam Reson raced to a 4-3 finish for third ,'while Lucas Tretter ran a 5-4 score for fourth. Steve Smith capped off the top five with his 6-5 finish.
