Jim Neese owned 250cc A on Saturday, and Canadia n Ca rl Vaillan co u r t took the 250cc A win on Sunday in a terrific battl e with Chester and Whitle y. Honda-mou nted Moree holesh ot Satu rday's 125cc A contes t, with Ch ester, Neese, Rand and Carsten yapping at his heels. H arnmerin ' Hank looked settled in th e lead until earl y in lap th ree (of 12), wh en h e crashe d over th e infi eld double. Cheste r took ov er and fended off all challen ges from first Neese, then Rand after Greg sacked Jim in the back of th e cou rse for se con d. Ramsey h ad dealt with Car sten early, ad vancing to fo u rt h and d ro p ping Ba rry to fif th , where they remained . Buehl flogged his Suzuki to the fron t on the start of Satu rd ay's 250cc A main, engaging in a fanta stic four-wa y battle with Neese, Rand and Whitl ey until he fell at the halfwa y point. Neese assumed the lead and ra n out front like a scalde d dog, obliv iou s to Rand ' s efforts fro m second p lace. Wh itl ey was secu re in third , follow ed by the kn ot of Carsten, Chester and Ram sey. Eickel led the pack in Su nd ay's 125cc A main after a restart caused by Wh itley jumping the gate. II ene Woods' fir st Speedway USA Arenacross series wound to a close with the season finale that attracted the ,season's biggest crowd and crowned the division champions with a few special guest riders thrown in for good measure. In the day' s first event, the race for the 125 and 250cc Beginners, Joe 'Blackmore took the early lead on his 125, but he soon found himself being challenged by 250-moun ted John Ad en. A speedway regu lar, Aden so o n moved by Blackmore to take the overall lead and held on to take the victory. , In th e second moto, Aden took th e lead off the start but completed less than half a lap before his bike spit its chain, leavi ng Aden dead in the wa ter . Aden's fail ure gave the lead to Jeff Robinson, who h e ld on un til the finish . Meanw hil e, Blackmore took a tumble that dropped him back bu t h e go t u p a nd charged right u p th rough t he pack to salvage fourth place overall and seco nd in the 125cc class . The final moto of the class saw Aden re tu rn with a vengeance to lead wire-towire while Blackmore came back from his second-mo te debacle to chase Aden across the line an d win the 125cc division.
