Keeney passed early-race lead er Michael Brandes in the first 125cc Pro race after h e w ashe d ou t the fro n t end in a slick turn and crashed. Keeney took con trol and never let up , buildi ng a comfortable lead by th e mid w ay point of th e race. O'Neal -backed Jeff WiIIoh wa s on the mov e, and h e ca ugh t and .press u re d Keeney for th e remaind er of the race. But Willoh would be forced to settle for se cond place in front of Sp ud Walters and Rick Ryan. The second moto was a showdown between Keeney and WiIloh, as the two riders quickly left the field an d waged their own privat e b at tl e fo r the moto an d overall victory. When the checkered flag waved it was all Keeney, as WiIloh tired out again and settled for seco nd . Wa lters was again third-best w hil e Brandes, Casey Johnson and Dean Matson rounded out the top six. Tyler Evans once again p roved to be the top minicycle ride r of the d ay, but this time he had to wo rk at it. Evans battled with mu lti-time Ama teur National Mi nicycle Champio n John ny Ma rl ey throu gh out the firs t mot o. Ma rley led most of the race, but Evans picked him off late in the moto after Marley's hands cram ped u p . Brian McGavran h ad a good rid e and secured third in front of Jimmy Varis, Danny Carlson and Sean Hamblin. "Cakewalk" is the only way to describe Lytle's 250cc Int er medi at e battle. Lytle pulled the holesh ot during both mo tos aboa rd his Honda of Troy-backed CR250 and storme d away to wh at appeared an effor tless se t of moto victories . In fact, Lytle's lap times were in line with those of the 500cc Pro riders who had started on the first wave in the same mo to. Lytle returned to win his first 125cc Interm edi ate qu alifier wh ere the top 10 fro m each d ivision would be combine d for the second moto in the contingency race. C 20 Josh Tarantino was equa lly impressive in h is qua lifier where he to p ped former mini cycle ace Jiri Dostal and Eric Schnell. ~ In th e m a in , New Mexico 's Ry a n Clar k sq ueake d ou t the holeshot over Lytle and led the race to the checkered flag . Ly tle took several sta bs at Cla rk thr oughou t the race, but Clark rem ained cool under pressure and held on for the moto win. Unfo rtuna tely, Clar k finished sixth in his qua lifier which left him third for the day behind Tyler, King and overall winner Lytle. Robby Couse, Eva ns, McGav ra n and Hamblin. Evans' 1-3 finish es ga ve him th e overa ll w in ahead of Va ris, w h o posted a 4-1. McGav ran was third overall with a 3-4 score.
