" La rni" trounced th e fie ld in a ll six motos ove r two d ays of racing to make a clean sweep. No t only di d the Itali ans appreciate his smooth, fluid riding style, but he ingr atiated himself with the fans . with his easy smi le an d unpretentiou s perso na lity. The Bologn a race is part of the huge Mot or Show that ru ns for 10 d ays and dra ws over a million and a half people. Typically cold, gray skies of winter in northe rn Ital y g re e ted th e riders a nd fans on race day. Fortunately , the p rom ot ers were smar t en ough to h i re Am e rican ma ster tra ck builder John Savitsky to design and build th e tra ck. Laid out in a flat field at the show's border, Sa vitsky cr af ted a n exc iting and technical track composed of san d and clay that offered the perfect balan ce of traction, roughness an d total la ck of dust. Not really kno wn for his su percross ski lls, Bobby Moore looked su rp rising ly s trong on t h e Ch esterfi eld Yamaha . Moore wa s fast and consistent, finishing th e. day eigh th ov er all but was re ally closer to the lead er s than th e re sults may suggest. When it was ove r, Lamson swept all three motes, but Ward -kept h im hon est. Cooper sneaked in for a solid third ove ra ll foll o w ed by Voh land , Craig and I rag ter. Th e n ext d ay, Lams on again took center stage on h is Team I -SOO-Collect Honda, as he swept all three motos. The d ay started very poorly for th e It a lia n-based Wo rld Champ, Moore, when he cras hed and sustained a possi ble broken leg.
