"V IC S',':·' O E America'sweeldy motorcycle newspaper •Letters to the editor. '. Backing Muzzy I would like to reinforce Rob Muzzy's co m ments as re porte d in Cycle N ews (Issue #48, December 7, 1994), Our courtesy tour of the Ducati factory took place d urin g a Kawasa ki-sp onso red trip to Italy honoring our Gold Level "Ichiban" d ealers. Several KMC executives were p resen t, along with n um erous d ealer p ar ticipants. The tour w as very enjo yable, and we are grateful for the invitation. There was no discussion whatsoever of Scott Russell, an d the only mention of racing w as th eir quietann ouncement t~at Ducati had take n the World Superbike Championship the prior weekend. It goes without saying that Kawasaki v a lu e s ou r relationship with M u z z y Racing and Scott Russell, but the story as originally reported was simp ly incorrect. Finally, your news item referred to me as Kawasaki Vice President, Marketing, a position I held for som e 11 years. However, my current assigrunent is Vice President, Sales . Our Vice President of _ Marketing is Mr. Barry Beehler. Robert Moffit Vice President, Sales, Kawasaki Motors Corp, U.S.A. Irvine, CA Dessert storm Despite being mildly amused by Paul Carruthers' column, Teardown, in this week's Cycle News (Issue #48, December 7, 1994) , I feel I must point out three obvious errors. Actually, two errors and a lie. I deeply regret if this causes him fu rth er humiliation around the office. Not. If h is Thanksgiving ho st was truly offering him "desert," as stated, perhaps h e sh01;'I~ have accepted, as any time spent riding, nevermind (sic) the location, would ob viously improve his ph ysical condition. Rather than "p assing on the turkey, the beer, the d ese rt," he could have suggested an early morning trail ride up in Hesperia. My oid friend Larry ' h as so me k ille r lo ops he 's thrashed m e o n . He ' s a g o od guy, maybe he'd d o you the same favor. But we all kn ow that you meant to write "dessert" (both tim es), don't we , Paul? Which brin gs us to your obvious lie, an d I quote: " 1 nev er sp ell a wo rd wrong." Ma ybe you m eant to say, " 1 never spell a word wrong once." Some words of wisdom: Never say never. Now repeat after me: "Soy un Perdidor (sic)." Steve Bauer Riverside, CA While it seems that the recent passing of the Dessert Bill (or is that Desert Bill?) may haoe a!!ected Carruthers and his ability to spell, It also appears that the wave of misspellings has hit letter-writer Bauer. "Never mind" is actually two words and not one; and the Spanish word meaning "loser" is actually "perdedor" and not "perdidor" as you write in your letter. While 1 should hate indeed written, "1 never spell a word wrong once," - perhaps you should repeat after me: "Personas en casas de vidrio no deverion de tirar piedras." Translation: "People in glass housesshouldn't throw stones."...Editor Mahalo to Ty Davis The Garden Island Motorcycle Club of Kauai, Hawaii, would like to thank Ty Davis for h is participation at our 1994 Thanksgiving weekend event. In addition to making several new friends on the "Garden Island," Ty also put on a good show for everyone. He took time to spend a day with riders, teaching them different riding techniques. At Saturday's and Sunday's events, Ty hand- ' ed out posters and T-shirts and signed autographs for everyone. Over the weekend he spent time with riders helping them tune their bikes and se t up the ir su spension. At the concl u- sion .of Sunday'~ even t, Ty handed out all his gear to the riders. He is cons idered by us to be a real professional an d a tru e champion; a pe rso n who takes the ti m e to help ou t others . Ty h as left a las ting impression w ith us all, especially our youn ger rid ers, who look to him as a role model. Ty Davis will always be welc ome to th e is la nd of Kauai, and the Ga rden Island Motor cycle Clu b looks forward to having h im par ti cip ate in o u r fu ture events. Aloha, Ty.
