Lap after lap, Morga n p ressured and sea rched for a way around Templeton, a nd the pa_ir ope ne d up a respectable lead on the rest of the pack . There was plen ty of bar-banging from both of the comba tants, an d the last lap had the crowd on its feet. In the last tum, Temp leton wen t in a little too hot and left the tiniest opening. Morgan saw his chance and pushed thro ugh, ta kin g Temp let on wi der a nd w ider, un til he wen t over the berm. As Morgan took the checkered flag , Temple ton was force d to wa tch as Canada's Bill Wallin, Georgia teammates Adam Humphre y a n d Matt Shu e, a nd Hammerin' Hank Moree finished in the top five. Templeton could manage only 11th. Templeton p roceeded to thrash the 2SOcc A class. Saturday's performance began with Templeton vowing furth er vengeance, and he got it, but not quite in the way he had planned. A first-tu m pileup in 125cc A delayed over half the Pro field, including Templ eton and Morgan, and allowed Mike N u tt er to e me rge as the lead er . Nutte r held off ha rd-charging Todd Bennick until the ha lfway po int, whe n Bennick ou tjumped him to grab the lead. Humphrey followed a lap later, p utting Nutter in third and bringing him to the attentions of Wallin and Moree. Late in the race Moree's Honda swapped in the whoops, sending h im throug h the banners. Mor ee salv age d seven th place, whi le Bennick, Humphrey, Nutter, Wallin and Gaylon Dickson Jr. filled ou t the top five. Dete rmined no t to ge t caught aga in in the fir st turn, Morgan d ro pped the hammer on 2SOcc A and was gone, Dickson blazed to runner-up, followe d by Mo ree, Humphrey and Wallin . Temp leton again ran into difficul ties and finished in the back. • . Shane Slother ran to the front of Sund ay 's 2SOcc A pack, just ahe ad of the gnarly knot containing Morgan, Templeton and Moree . Old pros Beier and Musgra ve tried to p ut the screws to Am ar adio by taking th e holeshot in moto two and trying to run away. But Ama radio kept his cool, leaving the wily veterans to race each other for two laps before making tw o relatively easy passes for the lead . Kady got off to a stro ng early moto run as well, sneaking by Beier and then Musgr ave by lap five. Ama ra d io again step pe d out to a healt h y .advantage as the laps wen t in the-books, incu rring an eig ht-second ma rgin ov er Kady , who ap peared to be fadi ng as Beier a nd Mu sgrave . ca u ght back u p . Kad y wa s fast in th e low er, more techni cal sections of the course, but on the fa ster se cti ons , M usgrave and Beier had a n advan tage, and they used it to drop Kad y to fourth overall. Late in the moto , Beier too k a few shots at Mu sgrave in an attempt to take over seco nd pla ce, bu t he se ttled down after nearly coming off his bike while trying too hard on the uphill d uring the last lap.
