The sweep crew pressed on wi thou t a worry , heading to Pah ru mp, for our next warm-up. But ahe ad in the distance, we saw flashing lights. Too far from Vegas to see n e on, a ll we saw were s q u a d cars, am b u la nces and fire trucks in a row. Thank Go d it's only an auto. But as I passed, my heart stopped, when I saw an XR650L crushed in front. I would like to thank the sheriff for being so kin d , and for all the support that I received when we arrived in Las Vegas at 10:00 p .m. To District 37, Jim Pilon, Dr . Dan Williams and all the rest, I'm looking forward to next year to do my best. But we will be witho u t rider #116, w ho los t h is life on that lonel y, cold stretch of Highway 372. Wade L. Kastorff San Jose, CA I will miss working with LR. I do feel luc ky that we have Danny Hamel and .Ty Davis to "carry the torch ." One thing scar es me thou gh - we ma y rea lly have ou r hands full if LR gets a roll cage, a few ext r a w h ee ls on the ground and BOO-plus horsepower. Look ou t, goats! David Pyle Irvine, CA Parker fan First of all, I would like to compliment you for a job well done at Cycle News. I would like to know if Scott Parker has a fan club, and if so, at what address. Where could I get a copy of the 1995 AMA Grand National Dirt Track race sche dule? Juneau Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53201. The AMA has told us that the Grand National schedule will be released on Monday, December 12...Editor Thanks, Ron As you reported in the Baja 1000 story in Iss ue #47 (N ovem ber 30, 1994), Larry Roeseler stated that he would step down from competing on Kawasaki's top entries after his 10th Baja 1000 overall victory. I must admit that actually hearin g the statemen t at the finish line brought so me emo tion to several people, m ys elf inclu d ed . LR has won the overall at the 1000 on Kawasakis a total of six times. I have had the pleasure of preparing many different bikes for LR over the last seven years, including five of his Baja 1000 wins. To win in Mexico as much as LR means many things. He has an incredible ability to read and memorize terrain, the endurance of a triathlete, eyesight of a fighter pilot, and the enthusiasm of an 18-year-old. He knows when he can take chances, and has undoubtedly had many "near goat" encounters: The ability to "MacGyv er" his way out of certain disast er ha s earned him several vic tories. Top all of this off w ith a love to ride motorcycles, and you have quite a package. I am not su re what the future holds for LR. I kno w that at the next Baja 1000 The .saga of L.A.-to-B -to-V sweep riders We sure went the long wa y th is time. Day one was up, over and through the San Gabriel Mountains - not once, but twice. It was only 7:00 p.m . w hen the sweep got in without man y problems. But this was early compared to da y two . We left at 7:00 a.m , in rain and snow, go ing really slow, to let the politicians know that dual sport is aliv e and well. When the medical sweep arrived at check one for a well-deserv ed rest, in . came the call that a rider had crashed ' and we went to do our best. The rider was lucky. After moving a rock wi th his head, he only spent a night in the hospital. Off went the sweep crew to clear the course, hoping fo r great luck and no I more falls. After cruising through Goler Wash and Charlie MShanh on'sf Ba s lrker . Ranch , we arrived to os one or ongawaited gas and warmth. It was 6:00 p.m. when we shepharded our last few riders off onto the pavement bail-ou t and the last extremely cold 84 miles to Las Vegas. i :> I would like to thank Ron Heben and the entire Team Green staff for their support at the Florida Mini Olympics. The addition of Heben to Team Green has been a positive one for the sport of motocross. We suggest to anyone who is not fam iliar with Ron to go and introduce themselves . He is v e ry I friendly and w ith his many years of .. e xperien ce as a factory mechanic, he can offer some very beneficial advice for any questions you may have. He definitely helped us in winning our first . Mini Olympic Championship (Brock Sellard), and made our stay in Florida a pleasant one.
