Baja adventure I recently competed in the SCORE Baja 1000. I must say, I defini tely experienced the Baja Adve nture . Ther e were so many people who I'd like to thank w ho he lped m y team out during th e very bleak periods. First, many thanks to SCORE. My partner, Eric Wolfe, broke h is femur and had to b e taken v ia SCORE helicopter to the hosp ita l. SCORE was g reat and made Eri c's unfortu nate incident as. pain-free an d com fortable as possible. Second, a great big thanks to the Kaw asaki pit guys (especially, head pit man, Don Johns, at the Borrego pit). Our bike was totaled and Kawasaki replaced everything from a new shock to subframe to shrouds. By the time they were done, we practically had a brand-new bike. After one m ore injury to my other partner, Ken Tape rt, who was ou t of the race with a cracked pelvis, it was left to myself and Jesse EIIico to finish the race. After 22 hours and 400 miles, we finished third in Class 30 which gave us the overall championship for 1994. Lastly, and most importantly, a very special thank yo u to my teammates, Wolfe, Tappert and Ellico, along with my terrific sponsors: O'Neal, Maxima, Devol, PowerBar, FMF, Barnett, N-Style, IRC, Clean Racing, Tube Tech, Dave Chase, Tun Morton and Tom Wimberly. Th ese companies and individuals made it possible for me to compete in this year's Baja 1000. Although I had the Baja adventure of a lifetime, and one that I never wan t to experience again, I can't wait until next year. To everyone, thank you . Yes, oh mighty lizard, you have driven us 'from our desert, and our families cry out for freedom. Your greatness is such that we even hav e to finan ce your protection. Tell us, oh great lizard , where does your power come from? Is it from the offices of Sacramento? A place you have never been, or even know exists? Or is it from the Senators of California , both form er and present, that you ac hieve your power? Yes, oh migh ty lizard , Senators t ha t you so mewhat resemble. We bow to you now, almighty ho rny toad, for you have driven us from our freedom to enjoy the d esert. With ou r own sw eat we have paid your army to drive us ou t.
