Th e first te st of ti mek eeping savv y came after a sho rt sectio n of nasty trail at check three. A 13-mile test betw een checks four and five followed, and it was here that riders encountered the fir st sign ifican t sec t ion s of snow. Meyer established h is early lead by clobbering everyone wi th his 4:18, whil e Wood trailed by over a minute wit h his 5:21. Marty Wa lden began to ove rcome his slow sta rt with a 5:46. A couple of easy checks ended the first loop a n d sta rted th e second, and then condit ions d eteriora ted consid erably going to check eight. A n ine-mile test between check s n ine and 10 followed, and Don Knapp blazed thr ough th e s no w and ice to lead with a 5:18 at 10. Wood followed with a 5:28 to cu t Meyer's lead to two, and Patrick" Garrahan was ne xt best with a 5:44, a score negated by burning the check-in. The "Dead Fall" sectio n was run backwards b etween ch ec ks 11 and 12 to close out the enduro, and Wood, Walden, Garrahan and lambert shared the on ly threes handed out at the exit. Meyer hung on for the overall win, however, as his four allowed him to maintain a onepoint lead . Walden's up-and-down day earned him third ove rall over Garrahan on tie breakers, while Knapp beat Booth on tie breakers to round out the top five. Results A SPTSMN 0 / A: 1. Leghorn STONYFORD, CA, NOV. 13 Scott "Mad Max" Meyer overcame a tough field of AMA District 36 competitors and the toughest condi tions seen at Stonyford in years to gain his first victory of the year at the WFO Enduro, put on by the Napa Valley Climbers Motorcycle Club. The WFO End uro is quickly gaining a repu tation for its tests of both timekeeping savvy and raw speed, and Meyer used the tractability of his four-stroke Husqvama thro ugh the snow and ice and his own blazing speed to post a onepoi nt margin over the winner of the last fou r even ts at Stonyford, Dave Wood . By David A. Procida MORENO VALLEY, CA, NOV. 11 Matt Puccio p ut his KXI25 into the winner's circle on the last Saturday nig ht race of the year ~t Starwest Supercross Park in the Lake Perris Fairgrounds. In the cool night air , Puccio grabbed th e holeshot in the.competitive 125cc Novice class and led Deron Wilson, Landon Leavi tt and the pack of screaming machines up and over the "La uncher" and off the "Drop " before an offtrack excursion in the rockers d ropped him back into the pack. Th is ha nd ed the lead to Wilson, who had company in the form of a haid-<:hargin g Leavitt and Toby Lopez . Puccio had recove re d from hi s earlier m ishap and cl osed to Lopez's rear fender. Puccio used the infie ld double to work his wa y past bot h Lopez and Leavitt, and then sel his sights on Wilson , but the RM rider proved to be more difficult to get by. Puccio began sticking a wheel in on Wilson in several corners a n d then, with the white flag signaling the last lap, became a little more aggres sive. He pulled alongside of Wilson in the rockers, but Wilson held the good line. .
