The first mo to saw Rand y Danylo pull the holeshot. Dan ylo, who was racing his first Intermed iat e race af ter a rece nt tr an s fer from the Novice ran ks, was no matc h for Beatty or Eric Schnell, who both p romptly pa ssed Danylo by the end of the first lap. Beatty set a blistering pace that none of the other racers could match and went on for the eventual win over Schnell and Glenn Branson, who wa s ra cin g his new Ho nd a for the first GREENVILLE, KY, OCT.30 Shad Rickets aboard his Modern Ti re /Bob 's Cycle-backed ATK ou tdistanced the competition on a day of action-packed competitive racing in a11 classes d uring the three Creek Hare Scramb le in the rolling hills of Western Kentucky. For Ricket s, th is win was especi ally sw eet since it was his first major win after suffering a cras h in April that sha ttered h is wrist. The day didn' t star t ou t so we ll for Rickets, as he dr· cled in eigh th place on the first lap afte r having to stop and make so me minor ad jus tments on h is clutch levers. This allowed Mike Cornell, in his rook ie year as a AA compet itor , to take first place. Cornett continued to build a lead on the re st of the AA class until a tangle wit h a lapped ride r on the third of six lap s ended the charge. Cornett wa s up and go in g ag a in but not until Ricketts, who had been stead ily working his way to the front , shot past. Cornett continued in second until the futh lap when d isaster struck in the fonn of a rear flat tire . john Machino got around, as did Ja red Gree n aboard a KLX 650 Kawasaki. Machino and Green continued their battl e over second and third to the finish in that order. Former Na tiona l Hare Scramb les Champion Ton y Hendon, now a Vet A rider, caught and passed a s tru gg lin g Cornett on th e last lap . Another top competi tor was Kawasalcimounted Doug jones, who also fell victim to a flat tire bu t managed to hold on to fifth in the AA class. Results time. Beatty led the way in the all-important second moto, but this time he had Schnell breathing dow n the back of hi s jers ey . Th e tw o ri de rs engaged in arguably the best battle of the day. Sch nell seemed the faster o f the two bu t every time Schnell poked a wheel in, Beatty would look over and bloc1< the line. The two raced inches apa rt the remainder of the ra ce, w ith Beatty prevailing in the end . SchneU rod e great but had to settle for secon d in fron t of Ray Bowers and forme r minibike ace Jerr y Alema n, wh o was debuting his new YZI25. Sean Ham blin was the star mini racer of the day, as he smoked to a pa ir of uncontested moto wins in the 80cc Intermediate class. Chris Rogers was equally impressive in the 80cc Novice class by scoring the overall victory after two motos of close racing with Dylan Lord. Results 50OPEN, l. M ik Aboi (Ccb~ so STK''"''): 1.
