the win without pressure from anyone.
The 125cc heat races began with 44
riders vying for 16 main event starting
spots. Gaddis secured his main event
berth by blasting into the lead in heat
one and scoring the victory.
When the rubber band popped to
start the 125cc main event, defending
National Arenacross Champion
Grayson Goodman nailed the holeshot
ahead of Junior Jackson and Gaddis, but
Chad Pederson skimmed past all three
riders in the whoop section to take the
lead. Gaddis laid claim on Goodman's
second-place position after passing him
through the whoops.
Pederson held the lead for half the
race until Gaddis outbraked him in the
dog-leg section. Gaddis' and Pederson
then settled into a pace. and while they
cruised around out front, Todd DeHoop
picked his way through the crowd after
a mediocre start. Gaddis took the checkered flag for the win with Pederson second and DeHoop third. Jeff Curry, who
came from a bad start on the second
row, finished fourth while Goodman
took fifth.
When the 33-rider 250cc class was
pared down for the 16-rider main event,
Gaddis was among them. Gaddis powered his KX250 into the lead of the 20-
With' 44 125cc Pros trying to qualify
for a main event spot, the heat races were
packed with talent and great racing. Heat
one saw Gaddis and Pederson get off the
line in first and second and never look

heat two. Whitley and Deegan swept
heat three, while Texans Goodman and
Upshaw bested the final heat. DeHoop
and Miller, as well as Bennet and Bachman, had to qualify in the semis.
Whitley timed the rubber band perfectly and blasted into the first turn
ahead of Goodman and Gaddis. Goodman overtook Whitley through the
rough whoop section w ith Gaddis,
Whitley and Pederson tight on Goodman's rear fender. Gaddis began to
pressure Goodman through the double/double section and set him up for a
pass going into the dog-leg section.
Goodman went down hard, allowing
Gaddis to take over the lead with Pederson right behind while the rest ofthe
field followed.

Though Pederson pulled up within
passing distance of Gaddis several
times, Gaddis always closed the door

Gaddis took another first, with Pederson second. Buehl held third followed
by Palmer and Whitley.

Final Round
Shives shines at
Tulare vintage
TT/MX
By Matt Hilgenberg
TULARE, CA, NOV. 5-6
ond a Elsinore rider Brian Shives
had a great weekend at Tulare
Cycle Park, winning the 250cc intermediate class both days of Triple M Racing's AHRMA vintage TT and
motocross doubleheader. The motocross
was the season finale for the AHRMAWest Regional MX Series. Two hundred
twenty-eight riders competed over the
two days, a bit less than the spring race,
most likely due to large amounts of rain
in the area, although the weather at the
track was excellent.
Saturday's TT featured lO~lap heat
races and 12-lap mains. Shives and his
brother Jeff ran off with the top spots in
the heat, with Jeff taking the win over
Brian, and Keith Lynas. When the main
event ran, though, it was Brian Shives
who came home the victor over Jeff
Shives and Montesa VR rider Steve
Erickson, while Lynas settled for fourth .
Honda XL350 rider Marvin Davis
was among those with double class victories, edging Howard Dishman in
500cc Novice and Steve Shahan in 30+
Novice class.
Brian Shives was the star of Sunday's
250cc Intermediate motocross event,
sweeping to the win in both motos of the
15-rider field. Moto one had Shives lead
from start to finish, followed by Ossa
Phantom pilot Keith Lynas and fellow
Honda pilot John Grise, who led at the
start of moto two over Shives, while
Lynas fell, then had to work his way
through traffic to eventually claim fifth
spot. Meanwhile, Shives finally leveraged
his way past Grise to earn the win. Grise
was second overall, followed by Ken Gerard, whose 4-3score edged Lynas' 2-5.
