The largest class of the day was Modem Clas sic No vice, where Jon Stillman came away with just four points and the first-place award. Kawasaki KT rid er Scott Chapman finished with six, just one clear of Wayne Sumner's Yamaha. In Premier Ughtweight Intermediate, Doug Shepherd's Greeves took top honors with a score of 11, compared to 13 each for Mark Roler, on a BSA C15, and Ron McCabe , on a Triumph Tiger Cub. Roler won the tie-breaker by carding three more cleans, to earn the runner-up spot At the debut Hollister trial last year, park rangers asked that the sections be limited basically to one long wash area just over the hill from the MX course. With last year's success and rider coop" eration, rangers allowed Starman's Mike Fenner to spread this year's British Bike magazine-sponsored event out in to the hills a bit more, giving riders som e "loo p time." Of the nine sections, two crisscrossed a medium-sized ra in rut, one featured tight turning, four sections had tums complicated by a thick bed of The Vintage lron-sponsored program started with a memorial lap for former Greeves importer Nick Nicholson, who passed awa y in September. The lap was headed by Gary Bailey, and includ ed nearly all the Greeves machines at the event, plus Nick's son Keith Nicholson, who later had some great races in his first-ev er AHRMA ride aboa rd Kenny Sykes' 360cc Challenger. HOlUSTER, CA, OCT. 22-23 oh n Moore and Mike Brumit were victorious after some tough competition at the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association's National Tr ials/Motocross doubleheader. Moore claimed the Modem Classic Expert win at Saturday's trial, while Brumit topped the one d ivision each in the 30+ and 500cc Intermediate MX classes. For the second tim e this season, an AHRMA doubleheader was held on the West Coast As in April at Sandhill, Starman Productions laid out the trial, but this time, Santa Clara Riders Unlimited was the MX promoter. Weather conditions were nearly perfect both days, and there was a large spectator attendance. The two events, combined with a Friday motocross school by Ga ry Bailey, and swap meet/bike show on Saturday, have turned into one of the most popular vintage competition weekends anywhere. He entered two of the biggest classes - both of them large enough to warran t two divisions in order to accomodate all the riders, In the SOOcc Intermediate A race, Brumit stormed to the wi n in bot h motes, w hile second overall fell to New York's Bill Morando, wit h a 4-2 score. Oregon 's Doug Eckelman had a cons istent 3-3 da y for third. The 500cc Intermediate B d ivision was won by Loral Lake Racing's Rod Lake, aboard a Honda XL35O. Brumit had it tougher in the 30+ Intermediate B event, as Nicholson won the first moto and led the entire second moto until the final turn. With jus t a handful of bike lengths to go to the finish line, Brumit pushed Nicholson off line enoughto squeak pa st and w in . Ossa-mounted Keith Lynas won the A division over Lake. . Lynas entered two other classes, also, easily winning the Premier Ughtweight II Intermediates, and finishing third in 250cc Intermediate division B.
