Grewe, Hileman tame Aztalan Senior Motocross By Andrew Bussen u.KEMILLS, WI,OCT.8 A steady rain caused muddy conditions for the riders atten ding the Dirty Old Blasters MX at Az ta lan Cycle Park, and wi th the day en di ng after only one ha lf of the mot os had been comp leted , john Grewe and ja mes Heilman ca me a way with o ve ra ll w ins in th e 25+ and 30+ Expert classes, respecti vely. Sco tt Ste inle wa st ed no time in getting his big-bo re 1995 Honda hoo ked up and to the first tum before the other ride rs in the 25+ Expert C la ss. Close behind, with cons iderabl y less h orse po wer, were Doug Fors tner, Grewe, and Kev in Popaeko. Grewe and his Suz uki RMI25 ob vio us ly were not fazed by the rain-soaked track or the bigger bikes, and he had enough tea ro ffs to get around Forstner and Steinle by the second lap . Grewe led the remainder of the 2D-rninute-plus-one-lap moto . A s Grewe's lead increased, Forstner, Pop ae ko, Scott Hicks, Steinle and jim Randa were dodging each othe rs' roost and swapping p ositions throughout the remainder of the moto. Hicks dropped out of the race when the engine on his KX250 seized near the plateau jump. By the 15-minute mark, Steinle had secured second plac e, with Popaeke, Randa and Forstner rounding out the top five. Results 2S+ EX: 1. John Grewe; 2. Scott 5mnle; 3. Knrin Popwko; 01. Tam RaNU; 5. Ezerins clean at Schuessler Memorial Motocross By Phil McDowell WCEMILLS, WI,OCT.9 Midwest Action Cycle / Tor qu e Center / AXesponsored Eron Ezerins was one of few riders to sta y clean at Aztalan's ann ua l Rand y Schuessler Memorial motocross by stayi ng out front in bo th the 125 and 2SOcc A dasses. A full day of ra in th e previous da y and sp rinkles throughout the night left the track in somewhat of a quagmire-like sta te for Sunday morning's practice. But instead 01 cancelling the race, the track crew worked hard to elimina te the worst sections. For the riders who toughed it out , there were rewards at the end of the day. Ezerins had a pretty easy go of it in the 2SOcc A dass, as he slo pped to a pair of mo to w ins over Richard Cuff and Michael Luoma. In first 125cc A moto though, Ezerins had a bit more work to do after he spun out and got bumped in the first tum. But he picked it up and was back in second before the first lap was complete. He went on to take the win over Luoma. Overall, it was Ezerins, Luoma and Andy Bowman. The Vet A class went to Chuck King stad, who inherited the first moto w in after early race leader Tom Dretzke broke a cha in. Dretzke came back to take the win in the second molo, with Kingstad second. The Vintage class went to Th omas An glin who posted a 4-1 score 10 bea t Pete Degrand's 2-3 and Wayne Slagle's 5-2.
