Proc ida MORENO VAUEY,CA ocr. 8 , Casper Yokum put his Suzuki into the winner's circle with a pair of moto wins in the 30+ Beginner class during the final round of the Slarwest Supercross Park 's T-shirt giveaway series . The RM-mounted Yokum grabbed the lead in moto one at the drop of the gate. Rich Dean, wa s hot on Yokum's heels, with Paul No vak, John Stavos and Elmer Silflies in the lead pack. Dea n wa s pressuring Yokum, looking for the opening that would put him out front. Meanwhile, the action for third was heating up, as SiIflies was all over Novak and finally made the pas s in the rocker section of the course. On t h e fourt h lap, Dean wa s riding on Yokum's shirtta il, and he began to stick a wheel in on the RM rider whil e Silflies closed the gap to Dean 's rear fender making it a three-rider battle for the lead. Champs honored at D.T.R.A. banquet By TIm McB ride BROOKLYN PARJ(.MN,ocr. 10 The Dirt Track Riders Association honored ils class champions at the annual awards banquet held at the Isaac Walton League in Brooklyn Park. Minnesota. Club members, family and friends were treated to good food , the presentation of awards, and some of the best ben ch racing ever. With the suppo rt from several sources, long: lime D.T.RA. promoters Buzz and Marie Arndt made sure that everybody left wi th a door prize. Buzz and Marie emphasized that without the effort from track workers, scorin g, sign-up personnel. etc., the D.T.R.A. simply would not exist Plaques of appreciation were awarded to the following who pitched in to help make this season possible: Mike Ledin , Don Boehlke, Eric Brouhard, Tom Spotls, Steve Vanderhoff, Dan Sandberg, Heather Donnay, the Henrichs family, Tim, Denise and Adam, Sherrie Jenkins and Kieth Raveling . • A secret collection wa s taken by the rid ers and helpers for two specially engraved murals that were presented to the Arndts, thanking them for their hard work and dedication in making the D.T.R.A. a Minnesota racing tradition. As far as the racing went, the Open A class championship fe U to Billy Hoffmiester, who won every event excep t for the final round, which went to his teammate Eric Brouhard. The master himself, Buzz Arndt, proved that at 52 years of age, you're never too old. Arndt clinched the Twin, Senior and Open B class championships, respectively . In only h is first year in any sort of organized racing, Dave Jenkins won the highly competitive 30+ class championship.
