Beatty buckles down at Perris Motocross By Tony Alessi ~ 0\ 0\ .-l 0\ .-l l-o CIJ .g ..... o U 34 PERRIS, CA SErf. 25 , Tim Beatty rode a very locused race and snared a double-moto sweep 01 the 12Sec Intennediate class during round two of GFI FaUSeries at Perris Raceway . Beatty bagged the ftrst-mo to holeshot in the openin g 12See Intennediate race in front of Gabe Bolivar, Ch ris Cooley, Dean Van Riper and Mike Battista . Beatty was riding precisely during the opening laps and began to p ull away. Beatt y stretched his lead to over 10 bike lengths by the third lap , while Dean Van Riper worked past both Chris Cooley and Gabe Bolivar to take over second place. Van Riper picked up the pace and began to chip away at Beatty' s lead, closing to within two bike lengths of the leader by the final lap . Van Riper let it a Uhang out on the final circuit in an ellort to take over the lead , but he almost got sucked off his motorcycle when his leet cam e off the peg s in a rulled, off-camber tum. Beatty cruised it home fo r the win, followed by Van Riper, Cooley, Bolivar and josh Amaradio. Beatty na iled down the holeshot for the second time during the all-important ftnal moto with Glen Branson, Eric Schnell , Bolivar and Van Riper in tow . Like th e first moto, Beatty opened up a lead earl y in the race, but Schnell moved to second and quickl y made up the distance . Schnell ·dogged Beatty for the remainder of the moto, but a dragging right sidep late may ha ve h ind ered him en ough to keep him from makin g a move for the lead . At the ftnish line it was Beatty for the mot a and overall w in with Schnell, Cooley, Branson and Bolivar rounding out the top live. Local Perris pr os gave fits to " Factory" Phil Lawrence in both 12S and 2S0cc Pro cla sses where he finished no higher than second overall. The 125cc Pro Class was packed with a number 01 new rookie Pros including Ty Kady , Dus tin Nelson, E.j. Wright and Travis Preston , all of who m mixed it up aU day. When the du st setlied it was Greg Sch nell a n d his Pr o Circuit Suzuki finish ing first, while Lawrence p icked up the runner-up pos ition in front of Mike Chamberlain.
