ders th emselves use pressed-in iro n wet liners. . The all -new motor rests in a doub le-cradle, single-backbone frame, constructed of high-tensile steel, and features a right-side downtube which unbolts fo r easier eng ine access . Kawasaki gave the new Vulcan a super-low 28.3-inch seat height. Suspension-wise, a raked-out , 41mm Showa fork handles the du ties up front, while a "hidden" sing le-shock design is used o u t back. Th e shock, w hich is tucked ou t of sight, giving the Vulca n the rigid-frame look, has little in the wa y of ex ternal adjustment, just a seven-way cam-type adjuster. O ther featu res include a s tepped seat, a backrest, d ual hel me t locks and a mai ntenance-free battery. Th e suggested retail p rice of the new Vulcan is $6699. In an effort to wres t back the Midd leweight crown in the ever-popular 600cc sportbike class, Kawasa ki has int ro du ced yet a third Ninja 600 - this on e dubbed the Z X6 R. The new mo torcycle features ram air ind uction that feeds the fou r downdraft 36mm Keihin carburetors from the nose of the fairing. The ZX6R also features a r ig h t-s id e cam drive, allowing fo r a more compact engine design; and the camshafts themselves have undergone a weight reduction and are now hol low rather than solid. Kaw asaki also claims that the ne w s i x-sp eed tran sm is si on fea tures s tro nge r parts and reduced slid ing re sistance and radial p lay for m or e precise gear changes; second through sixth gears are also thicker and undercut with five cold -forged engagement dogs also improving feel and engage m ent. Th e clutch has also been upgraded and now contains two additional steel and friction plates which are smaller in diameter. Cooling capabilities ha ve also been increa sed by enlarging the radiator. An all-new perimeter frame is sim ila r to th a t us ed o n the Ja p a n- an d Europe-o nly ZXR400, and we ig hs in some 6.6 po un ds less tha n the fra me on the ZX6. The ZX6R uses a conventional 41mm fork whic h is fully adjustable for preload, rebound and comp ression. The rear su sp ension is Kawasaki's Uni-Track and is full y adjustable for ride he ight, preload, rebound and compression. Drilled 300mm semi-floating disc brakes are used up front (w ith fourp ist on calipers) while a 230mm disc is used on the rear wheel. The ZX6R w ill carry a suggested reta il price of $7899, $800 more than th e ZX6 and $2300 more than the standa rd 600R. Kaw asaki ha s also introduced the GPz1100 sport-tourer for 1995. The big "K" claims tha t the GPz's po werplant is ba sed on the ZX11's engine with a reshaped powerband fo r more lo wend and mid-range p ower . The GPz uses 36mm Keihin carbs, 4mm smaller than those used on the ZX11. A fourinto-two-into-two exhaust system is used w ith pipes on e and fou r joined together, as are pipes two and three. . Th e engine sits in a one-piece, double-cradle frame, with the right downtube rem ovable for easy engine access. Like th e ZX6R, a conventional 41mm fork is used up front with a single rear shock that fea ture s four-wa y rebound and four-way preload ad justment. The folding rubber foo tpegs are located 30m m farther forward than those on the ZX11 . The suggested reta il p ri ce of th e GPz1100 is $7999, a full $2000 less than theZX11. After nearly one full week of brutal pounding and relentless torture one marque, and one marque alone, stood on top. KTM. Led by 1994 World Enduro Champions Mario Rinaldi and Giovanni Sala, and World Enduro Vice Champion Fabio Farioli, KTM totally dominaed the manufacturer's competition adding yet another overall Manufacturer's Title to KTM's long, long list of ISDE victories. Maybe that's why more riders choose KTM year in and year out when it comes time for the ISDE . Afterall when you're facing the toughest race on earth, you better bring along the toughest motorcycle on the planet.
