Pole qualifier Ueda, meanwhile, had started sl ow l y , 10th at the end of lap I on e, but was picking his way through to the front so that by half distance it was a five-bike battle. The Japanese rider took control seven I laps from the end, but as he powered away Martinez took up station inches from his back wheel, waiting to pounce, leav ing the other three to sl o w each . other with their relentless battle. Ueda powered past on th e back straight, Martinez d ived inside aga i n at the next b end, and n ow there seemed no more overtaking chances l eft.
