Chester, who rode a 1989 CR Honda to the 250cc Novice class win. defeating a large group of rid ers on newer machinery. Chester, Jason Ingram and Craig Smith all started the firs t moto near the fron t. Chester clawed out a sma ll lead at the end of the first lap and inc rea se d his lead to five seconds over Smith by the third lap, whi le Ingram dropped back to fifth. Steve Smith blitzed his way out of the pack with a last- lap pass for third place as Ch est er took the moto win, followed by Crai g Smith and Steve Smith. Steve Smith left the second-mo to ga te behi nd Chester, w ith Craig Smith and Ingra m in tow. Steve p us hed Doug wid e at the po nd hairpin, taking the firs t-lap lead. Ches ter finis hed the moto twelve seco nds beh ind with a failed rea r brake, but his 1-2 sco re gave him the overall win , whi le Craig Smith captu red third. In Senior II class racin g, Hen ry Havenstein overcame an early first-m ote battl e for the lead tn go on to the win . Rob McClain, ridi ng a J<1M fou r-stroke received the pass-of-the-d ay awa rd for h is banz ai brake pass th ree turns from the checkers to earn second place.
