':V IC S.:'.: OE America's weekly motorcycle newspaper Letlerstothe editor.: Stanton fan Quite often I read letters in this column criticizing the attitudes of pro fessional racers. I consider myse lf a true supercross/ motocross fan, and try to get to as many races as I can, the last one being the Bingham t on , New York r ound , which I really enjoyed. Flying back to Michigan the nex t day, I was fortunate eno ug h to s it ne xt to Sara and Jeff Stanton. We talked pretty much th e whole flight a n d into th e Detroit airport. I found them both to be very friendly, outgoing, and en thus iastic abou t pl a ns after motocross. It was a 6:00 a.m. flight , so I am sure they were both tired. However, the y took the time to talk to me, and answer my questions. I wa nt to thank them for making a good trip better, and congratulate Jeff on the end of his brilliant racing career. There are certainly many great racers in the sport tod ay; however, it ma y be som e time before anyone w ill match Jeff's number of championships, U.S. GP wins and MX des Nations titles. Good lu ck in the futu re , Sara and Jeff. Thanks again. always tried to d o my best to set a good example on and off the trac k, and have a lways tried to do a good job for my sponsors by representing the ir products and displaying their logos. Let me get to the point. All year long my wife and I work to make everything loo k sh arp. One of the most im portan t races of the year to show your stuff is Lore tta Ly n n'S . We b ro u g ht o ur m o t orho m e a n d trailer to Lore tta Lynn's, comp lete with our sponsor's logos - some large and some smaIl. Du ring our seco nd night at the event, someone decid ed that our veh icles w ould look better wi thou t the logos. I am sure that w hoever did th is is very h appy. We ll, I' m not. It would be nice to find o u t who the person is who stole th e logos . That probably won't happen, but I w ould like to make sure that they can 't use them anywhere. All of the logos are magnetic. There are three la rge "Team Green" logos, two large "Gary Bailey lever pivots," three large "Kawasakis," five medium "No Fears," and small logos from Dunlop, Bel-Ray, Answer, Arai, Scott, Pro Circuit, Endura , Ceet, Boysen, Ocala Ford, and Dir t Shirts. If y ou see m y magnetic logos , let me know. Gary Bailey Ga ry Bailey MX School Axton, VA Jim Kimb all Grand Rapids, MI For mo re on Jeff Stanton , see Davey Coombs' editorial on page 84.. .Editor. Loretta Lynn's rip-off . First let me take this opportunity to say what a great job the Coo mbs family and their staff did at the Lo retta Lynn's Nationals again this year. This was the firs t year th at I have ridden at Loretta Lynn's and I want to say that w ith as ma ny races as they run in a d ay, I can't believe how grea t the track was no matter wha t time of da y you raced. My hat's off to everyone involved. N ow for the problem . I ha ve been in this sp ort for 37 years and have enjoyed just abo u t e ve ry min u te of it. I have Who won? For the reco rd, who was the winner of the last half mile on September 29, 1990 at Ascot Park in Gardena, California? Was it Terry Poovey? In your August 10, 1994 issue, it says . that Bruce Springsteen waved the checkered flag in victory at the Peoria, illinois, TT in the "Looking Back" section. We all know it was Jay Springsteen. We fina lly went to the Peoria TT and it was a lot of fun. The Peoria M/ C club h as a ne a t race track an d the perfect venue for specta tors . This was our first TT in many years. We used to liv e in Southern California and went to Ascot Park a lot and also Pom ona and Sacra- mento. Next year we plan on attending the Springfield Mile. Keep up the excellen t coverage of the races. Amy an d Rod Zezulka Grand Marais, MN Tile win ner of tile last half mile National at Ascot Park was Ron nie Jones, not Terry Poovey . Hopefully, in tile year 200S our "Looking Back" editor won' t get him confused with Davey Jones of the Monkees.. .Editor. The cover of the August 10 issue was very interesting. Was it symbolically intentional that the front cover going clockwise with Dick Mann shown first on a single, then his BSA twin, then the Rocket 3 BSA, to finally a po ndering Mann? Does 1-2-3 equal Ma n n? Wh a te ve r it means, it was a fabulous cover. All of Joe Scalzo's columns are wonderful and the one about Mann was the be st. Vintage racers and aficionados have an opportunity on October 8-9 to see Mann, Jimmy Weinert, Gary Nixon, Eddie Mulder, Neil Keen and Jeff Smith at Flat River, Missouri. Th ere's a onehour AHRMA scrambl e scheduled, along with a short t rack a t the SI. Frances County Fai rgrou nds. Sounds like vintage paradise to me.
