WORLD SPORTS 12th ANNUAL FLORIDA 'StATE MOTORCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP GOLD CUP SERIES s ma ll built-in g r oov es for water drainage, causing the Concours to feel a little squirmy. Otherwise, the bike usually felt stable - maybe a little top-heavy with a full tank of gas, tho ugh. Although the bike shifted gears well, I did ha ve a min o r problem with the back edge of the lower fairing interfering with my size 11 foot when downA shifting. Not a big deal, but somewhat annoying nonetheless . Okay, so the Concours has so me faul ts, but it also has a number of nice featu res, one of w hich is long range from its big 5.7-gallon gas tank, though you couldn' t tell th at from the fuel gauge. The needle bu ries itself in the red after only about 160 miles, bu t ther e's still plenty of gas to carry yo u another 40 or so miles before swi tching to reserve. The two locking compartments in the fairing come in handy, as does the digital cloc k. The "scratch resistant" a nd easily detachable sad dlebags have plenty of stora ge space and are a breeze to op erate. ~ But perhaps best the best feature of a ll is the Concours' sugges te d retail p rice. At $8399, the Concours is by far the least expensive machine in its category, making it a viable opti on in what is otherw ise a pricey class of motorcycles . The Conco urs " fla ws" become quite a bit more swallowable when you compare its price to that of the Yamaha GT51000 ($14,999), or the Moto Guzzi 5PIII ($9998), or BMW 's Kll 00 LT ($15,590) and Rll00RS ($11,890). 5 0 the Conco urs migh t n ot offer some of the "trickery" - anti-lock brakes, fue l-injecti on, s pace- age suspension, and a mode m engine - found on many of its high-d ollar competitors, but for some, the Concours could fit the bill as the ideal affordable, no-frills, everyday commuter bike.
