I· Get Back Super fast Cynthia Cole finally pu t two ye a rs of bad luck behind her to claim the first Women's class title of her car eer. Th e Kawasa ki-supported Californ ia transplant wo n all three mo tos going away on a KXl 25. Her primary rivals - Kristy Shealy, Shelly Kann and Dee Wood - gav e chase all week long, but to no avail. "Finally no disasters!" said an ecstatic Cole in the winner's circle. "I got on a Kawasaki th is yea r and they've been running perfectly. The first two moto s I go t the holeshot a nd ju st rode aw a y with them. The third moto I was really nervous because I've never wo n here and I thought for sure I would screw up. I couldn't pull away but I still won ." Cole's sponsors include Team Gr een, . AXO, Shoei, Scott, 100% and CTi. "It's harder to defend a title than it is to win a title," said Kristy Shealey, the '93 class Champion and this year's runner-up. "I co ngratulate Cindy on the win. She did a good job and I guess she worked a little bit harder than the rest of us did. She was getting good starts and I wasn't. I had a hard time getting around Dee Wood and Shelly Kann and it really tired me ou t before the end and I couldn't bear down and catch her." "I'm really pleased with third," said Minnesota's 16- year-old Karin, who made the Loretta Lynn's top -three podium for the first tim e in her career. "I re ally wanted to keep up with those guys this year and I'm really happy that I did. Last year I was 2D-seconds behind them in eve ry moto and now I'm right there with them . I wanted second but in the last moto I wore out really fast and it didn't come to me." Pennsylvania 's 14-year-old Amber Hughes was a surprising fourth overall, while Wood, the long-time Texas racer, . suffered a serious knee injury in the last moto. Team Green's Josh Sweat was one of the B (Intermediate) class stars. The 16year-o ld West Virginian racked up four moto wins in six outings and in the process clinched the first two titles of his career. Sweat was 2-1-1 in th e 250 B Stock class even after crashing in the whoops while leading. Following Sweat to the winner's circle in the 250cc B Stock class were California 's Dustin Nelson (3-4-5), Texan Donald Hardy (5-7 -3) and Oregon's John E. Williams III (6-8-2). Early contender Jason Sybert ran first and second in the initial motos but failed to finish the third and final heat. "This track is just so hard to ride on because it's so rough," admitted third 125cc B Mod moto winner Andy Bowyer. "I got used to Ponca City last week, whi ch is real smooth with a lot of big air. I can get out there and go. But here the track is so rough that I've been having a hard time. I'm fighting the bike all the time, especially when it was so rough early in the week. Now I feel like I'm get ting the hang of it." Bowyer managed a n 11-4-1 third ov erall as Sweat again won wi th a 1-1-4 score. EI Cajon, Califo rn ia's Tyler King d irected his Yamaha to second with a 6-5-2 tally. The 125cc B Stock winner was New Mexico' s Ryan Clark, who d irected his Kawasaki to a steady 2-3-2 tally to edge the 3-1-3 of Texan Billy Akers. Dustin Nelson, another fast up-and-comer from EI Cajon, Cali fornia, won the first and third motos but could onl y salvage a sixth in race two for third overall ahead of Bowyer's 4-2-4. California's Chris Wheeler raced his Yama ha int o the winner's circle in the 250cc B Mod class with a 3-1-2 count for the week.
