( I His second climb was enough to take the 540cc class win. Canada's Ted Wilkins was Everett's nearest competitor. Wilkins turned in a 6.67.47 effort on his first try up the hill but exited the box with a fishtail extravaganza on his second effort, using bod y language to gain control of his Rotax. All this resulted in a slower time, but his first-run time would stand, giving second overall "Coming off the line, as soon as I gassed it, it went sideways (and) all over the place," said Wilkins. "It was a fun ride! I was just in a panic; I choked under pressure." The flood lights were in full bloom by the time the 800cc class took to the hill. Dent was the man of the hour as he motored his Gerencer-pow ered Harley away from the center of the box . As he wheelied to the 150-foot mark Dent drifted left a litt le, got some air, and landed straight wi th the throttled p inned. He carne dangerously dose to the boundary line but straightened out his big Harley, finishing with a huge roo ster tail as he crested the top with a super-quick 6.08.90 time. His time went unmatched, resulting in his second Pro win of the year. "Coming into this race, I wanted to dedicate it to my mom, as she's in the hospital in North Carolina," said Dent. "A s I was sittin' on the log (starting box) I said, ' M o m , this one's for you! ' I dropped the hammer and I had a good straight ride. I'm proud to be rid ing one of Louis Gerencer's Harley-Dav idsons." Finishing second to Dent was hi s teammate Harry Schreiber. On his first attempt, Schreiber had a tidy climb going before drifting out of bounds and hitting a chalk bag, kicking up a huge wh ite clou d at the 160-foot mar k. Returning for h is sec on d run, Schreiber lau nched from th e center of the box, drifted a little right, then wheelied up to the jump. He floated over the jump and was back onto the nitro, sailing through the ti ming ligh ts with a 6.30.95. "The Gere ncer-prepared HarleyDa v id son h as a lot of snot, it really runs," said a happy Schreiber. " Th is • could be a yearly trend, having this hillclimb on Saturday night. I'm pleased with the results and outcome. We'll probably do it again next year." Jimmy Dingee ran a hard first run, but the event referee ruled that he had stepped out over the boundary line at the 192-foot mark and h is time was erased. In his last run, Dingee kept his Harley-Davidson straight this time, stopping the clocks at 6.32 .09, which was good enough for third. After bailing off at the 75-foot marker on his first try, Gary Miller came ba ck and click ed off a 6.37.43, earning him fourth overall. a Greasy Ridge Hill Haydenville, Ohio Result s: July 30, 1994 S4O: 1.
