The ESPN broa dcast schedule of the 1994 AMA Grand National Dirt Trac k Series has bee n revised an d will now begin on Augu st 12 with the first of 10 delayed one-hou r broadcasts. With one exception, the shows will air on weekdays at 1:00 a.m. Eastern and 10:00 p.m. Pacific time. One broadcast, the 1-96 National from Lake Od essa, Michigan , will air during primetime in the East. The first show in the series will be the DuQ uoin Mile which will air on Thurs day, Au g ust 11 at 10:00 p .m . in th e We st, and Friday, Augus t 12 at 1:00 a.m. in the East. i I The 1994 AMA Grand Na tional Dirt Track Series will conclude with a doubl ehea der on October 16 at the Del Mar 'Fai rg ro un d s in Del Ma'r, California. Due to a sc hed ul e rev isio n fo r the H arley- Davids on 883 Dirt Track Series, the mile dirt track at Del Mar will now hos t the final event of that series on the sa me program as the Gr and Na tional finale. Again, Everts will be unfamiliar on the 500, but was the logical choice since Suzuki does not manufactur e an open bike. The British squad will consis t of Mervyn Anstie on a 500; James Dobb on a Kaw as aki 125 and either Kurt Nicoll or Rob Herring on a 250. For mer 250 cc Wo rld MX Cha m pi o n Alessandro Puzar announced his retirement following the Jun e 26 Czech GP. The Italian was out of the top 15 in the p oin t standi ngs after the GP, and will th us not earn FlM-expense-paid trips to the American, Venezuelan and Japanese GPs. Puzar was champ in 1990, and wi.ll likely try his hand at road racing or car ' rallies. Former two-tim e World Speedway Champion Bruce Penhall and form er World Speedway Pairs Champion Dennis Sigalos piloted their Ocean Sp ray Scarab Specia l to its second victory in as man y outings at the Sarasota/Wellcra ft Regatta offshore powerboat National in Sarasota, Florida, on June 5. Penhall and Sigalos competed with 100 o ther boats in front of over 300,000 spec tators, placing first in the D class and an unofficial fifth overall. Penhall and Sigalos had scored their first victory on the boat's ma iden voyage at the Dana Point Challenge regional race on June 5. The pair will be gunning to make it three in a row at the Boston Harbor Thunderfest in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 30th. Perris Speedway will be re openi ng under the direction of Scott Bell, cousin of 1980 AM A Supercross Champion Mike Bell, and Bill Manley, fath er of former mo tocross racer Brian Manley. Sp eedw a y mo torcycl e racing will resume at Perris on Saturday, July 30, and continue on Saturday, August 6, before switching back to its r eg u lar Thursday night timeslot through September 29. Trittler did a complete somersault and landed on the back of Huffman's seat d uring the 125cc main event. According to Gardea, the ESPN television crew fail ed to ca tch this bizarre, incident on camera, and MTEG is offering four free tickets to a 1995 Sup ercr oss race to any one wh o has cap tured th is moment on their own video camera. The Ride To Win fund (RTW), in Richmond, California, is asking for loans of motorhomes an d d rivers to lodge the America n Wo rl d Tr ophy and Jun ior World Trophy team riders at the ISDE in Tu lsa, Ok lahoma, this September. RTW is hoping that enth usiasts who are planning to attend, specta te or assist the U.S. team might volunteer use of their motorhomes for Trophy Team rider lodging s ince the closes t motels are qu ite a d istance fro m th e race site.
