By Elaine Jones
SAN BERNARDINO, CA. JUNE I
For the first time this season, Mother Nature
gave the spectators nice weather with summertime temperatures.
Rising to the occasion w ith some hot ra cing.
Brent Werner took the Scratch main at Glen
Helen Speedway. OwIie Venegas drew the pole
for the Scratch main with Josh Lusen in slot two,
Werner in three and Mike Faria in four . Venegas
cut the best gate, while Lusen worlccd the out side. It tool< one lap for Lusen to grab the lead
Venegas zigged wljen he should have zagged,
dropping to fourth. and lArsen took over.
Then the hand of fate stepped in on the whiteflag lap when Lusen got out of the groove and
laid it down in tum one. Werner and Venegas
were able to get by, but Faria. who had just been
passed by Venegas, wasn't so lucky and also
laid it d ow n. The w in w ent to Werner with
Venegas second. Since no red flag had come ou ~
lArsen was credited with third and Faria fourth.
From the 5(}-yard line Jim Estes turned on
the heat and cut through traffic to taIcc over the
lead on the fourth lap of the Handicap main.
Bobby Campbell dropped to second and wa s
unable 10 hold i~ with Brian Pappalardo, Venegas and Werner all getting by on the ftfth lap .
Venegas and Werner were on a mission., and as
the white flag came out th ey both found the
chink in Pappalardo's armor and passed him. At
the checkered it was Estes, Venegas, and Werner. Jerry Black also put a move on Pappalardo to
taIcc fourth.
