Kopp, Fay, King and Stanley were bunched togeth er a short distance back. Parker kept the pressur e on Bostrom and regained third on lap 17. His ne xt target was Hill, and Parker do ve low into tum one to take second at the start of lap 23. Hill now had to defend his position from Andy Tresser, who made a last-lap charge that just fell short. "I miss ed a s hift off th e jump on the la st la p . ] couldn't make up for that mistake. ] was getting a good drive off tum four and ] think ] could have got him," said Tresser. Bostrom lurked close behind in fifth, w hile Kopp rode alo ne in sixth. Rich King moved around Stan ley into sev enth, then on the last lap Stanley slipped down in tum one. "I was really hung up too long behind Stanley and Fay. It was just too hard to pass," said King. "I was just trying too hard to make something happe n and it slipped away ," said a disappointed Stanley. Fay, Coolbeth, Annen, Trulson and Longcor all moved up d ue to Stanley's mis fortune.
