When thetapes went up, it was Schwartz
who got the start - if you can can it that, the rid ers were so close you could have thrown a blanket over Schwartz, larsen and Venegas.
Schwartz held the lead for three laps, but Larsen
was banging on the door. On the white flag lap,
Larsen hooked up in the deep Glen Helen d irt
and then dropped down underneath Schwa rtz
to win the race to the checkered flag . Venega s
was third, and Werner rounded out the field in
fourth.
Th e Hardicap main was more of a destru ction derby than a race . There were three laps
gone when Darrin Wdso n went down and took
ha lf the field with him. The red flag was cha rged
to Wils on and h e w as di squa li fie d . Jeremy
Aden's equipment was damaged, and he would
not return, ei ther. On th e resta rt Larsen mad e
his wa y to the front , and wi th Wilson gone, he
ran a way with the win. Schwa rtz was the only
rider tha t could han g with Larsen and he picked
up seco nd place.

was thi rd follo wed by Eddie Cas tro and John
Aden.
The sideca r team of McIntyre and Ketcham
held school in the Sidecar main event, leaving
the rest of the contestants behind for the win.
Dustin Evans kept his winning ways alive, topping Mitch HaD and Dann y Jones in the Support
main.

Larsen comes back at
Lake Perris 'Speedway
By Elaine Jones
PERRIS, CA. MAY 26
It was co meb ack time for Josh Lar.;en at Lake
Perris Speedway ThUr.iday night, with the former British League rider scorin g ye t an other
d ouble at the facility .
At the start of the Scratch main , l.ar.ien put it
an together from the get-go. He launched off the
line with Mike Faria and Bobby Schwartz right
bes id e him , an d th ey came out of fou r tied
together. Bu t Lar.;en foun d the quickest line, and
their battle was over before it had a chance to
get sta rted. Faria and Schwart z fini shed 2-3,
res pect ively . Ma in even t contender Charlie
Venegas was never a factor, riding out in the
d irt on his new Jawa and gelling a 10 for style
po ints , but fourth at the flag.
Larsen came fro m the long yardage in the
Ha ndicap ma in, and like a hot knife th rou gh
butter, he cut through the pack. He took over the
lead from Randy Skinner at about the halfway
point, and brough t it on ho me for the win. Faria
was n' t quite as quick, but at the white flag he

Mark Tilley put his Mountain Sports Suzuki into
the winner's circle with a double-moto win to
take home top honors in the 12SeeBeginner class
at the Starwest Supercross Park.
In the first mot o, a pack of over a d ozen rid er.; charged into the !ir.;t tum. Tiney headed the
eighth-liter contingent into tum two , with Mark
Ora, Ronnie Delbridge and the rest of the pack
hot on his heels and looking for a passing lane .
Jeff DeYoung was moving up from a midpack
start and running fourth, rapidly closing on Delbridge a nd making it a four-rider duel for the
lead .
Up front, Tilley was pul1ing away fro m the .
baili e for second . Delbridge passed Cira on the
step- up jum p and then lost tha t position to Mike
Valen tine, who had been working his way up to
the fron t virtually unnoticed. Now sticki ng out
like a sore thu mb, he wa s rid ing the only whi te
bike at the front of the pack.
Valentine do ubled his way up in to second
as he soa red over Delbridge and went in search
of Tilley. Behind the lead trio, Warren Stimpson
u tilized the grandstand double to get by Jeff
DeYoung, but the Honda rider stayed on the
gas and proceeded to stick a wheel in on Slimp-
so n's Suz uki. Up front, Tilley took the checkered flag with Valenti ne a dozen bike lengths
behind.
.
Moto two saw Delbri d ge rocket ou t of the
ga te to lead the p ack thro ugh tu rn one with
Tilley a lmost righ t bes id e h im . The pai r
bumped, neith er letting off, an d Tilley ed ged
ahead just before the long tab letop jump. Delbridge wasn' t abou t to give up without a bail ie
and cha rged d own the back straightaway, outbraking Tilley to retake the lead .
Late in the moto, Delbridge had lost the
advantage that he'd built up throughout the
race, and Tilley was IcnocIdng on the doo r. the
two went a t it tooth-and-nau for the lead , with
Tilley making the infield double from the inside
line, forcing Delbridge off his line and into second place. Tilley took the whi le flag on the next
lap, and for all purposes mota two - and the
class win - was in the boo ks. Ttlley took the win
w ith Delbridge seco n d, Stimpson third and
Theil fourth.
