Soon after, Craig pulled off, again in too much pain to continue. LaRocco and McGrath pulled away from the rest of the pack, and to the surprise of many McGrath held off the Kawasaki rider until midway through the IS-lap moto. "I was doing my best to hold laRocco off, but I knew he was riding good, and I wasn't surp rised when he got by," said McGrath, who was passed at the bottom of a downhill. It was really bad on the first lap. I didn't know where I was!" Huffman was fourth ahead of Hughes. "I started getting tight towards the end," said Huffman. Lamson challenged Em ig on an uphill, and made the pass on Ihe next ascent. Emig retaliated, however, taking 125cc NATIONAL the lead back at the bottom of the next Lamso n holesh ot the first 15-lap moto • downhill.
