th e fa ns en ro u te to four consecutive
moto victories.
The 250cc Pros took to the track first,
but the start was marred by a first-turn
p ile-up w hich forced a restart, to the
consterna tion of P a tt Gomm, Sco t t
Myers and Keith Mayes, who were leading be fore the red flag appeared. Yamaha p ilot Josh Boykin holeshot the restart
with Mayes and Walt ers in tow.
Things deteriorated for Myers, a firstlap mishap placing him at th e bac k of
the pack. Walters moved p ast Mayes
and set off afte r Boykin, ca tching and
eventually passing him on lap three .
Gornm bobbled a bit, allowing John Nelson by, but th en retook fourth after a
two-l ap ba ttle. Mayes also fell victim to
the determined Gornm on th e last lap.
The order wa s th en se t, w ith Wa lters
winning handily over Boykin, Gornm,
Mayes and Nelson.
Moto two was wall-to-wall Walters,
as he led the firs t lap then ran unchallenged to the finish. The race w as less
certain behind Walters, w ith Nelson,
Me yers and Boykin battling it out.
Boykin started the moto out front, but
had some trouble in a comer early on.
"My front wheel was caught in a rut
from the track-grooming equipment.
Go ing into the tum, 1 was committed

an d couldn't back off, what with th e
pa ck on my heels. Swoosh, out went the
front tire, and I did my best Pete Rose

Boykin. Boykin was safe in the mishap
and restarte d qu ickly, but while h e
pounded on his handlebar in an attemp t
to reposition a control lever gone askew, .
Gomm slipped by.
Myers seem ed to find h is stride in
this moto, passing Nelson on lap two to
take over se cond, then quickly setting
off after Walters. Myers gave a 110%
effort for the ne xt fou r laps, wringing
every ounce of hor sepow er out of his
Yama h a. Although Meyers ' effort was
impressive, Walters had built a sizea ble
lead and was ou t of reach . At the finish,
it was Wa lt e rs, Meyers and Gomm,
while Boykin advanced to fourth via a
a
last-lap pas s on Nelson.
