Th e Yamaha rider from California ended the day on the rocky Vila Santa Cruz circuit in Argentina two points ahead of fellow American Bader Manneh as they completed a 1-2 for the Stars and Stripes, winning a mote each and sharing the top three placings in each moto with Italian Alessio Otiodi. Defending champion Pedro Tragter, .who saw a four -point lead in the standings converted to a nine-point deficit, w as fo urth overa ll, .while Mikael Pichon, a dou ble winner at the p revious ro un d in his French homeland, was a subd ued fifth, claiming that a cold was drainin g his energy. Moore showed his strength to win the opening moto by five seconds after a long battle with Chiodi. Tragter had battled with them early on until he fell, but recovered to thir d before a late pass by a hard-ehar ging Manneh. Mann eh and Tra gter disputed the early lead in race two until the Dutchma n fell back with blistered ha nds . Moore had let them go early on, expecting the duo to fade in the heat, but runner-up in the moto, five seconds down on Manne h, was sufficient to clinch the overall win and ex tend the championship lead which he had already pried from Tragter's grasp earlier in the day. German title hope Peter Beirer lost further ground with a first-tum crash in race one, while Dave Strijbos and John Van den Berk hardly justified their team's expenditure in paying for their trip to South America . Strijbos scored twice to lift himself to 13th in the standings, but he is already 73 poin ts behind Moore and hardly a viable title candidate. Van den Ber k struggled aga in but at least scored a p o int - just o ne - in race two by defeating the best gen uine local, Milton Becker, by three seconds. Chris N eal , the 23-yea r-old from Hollister who is no w racing pe rmanently in Argentina, was the only scorer outside of the se ries regulars, w ith 13th in race one. He dropped a lap in race two to finish 23rd . (:N Vile 58 nta Cruz Vile 58 nta Cruz, Arg enti ne Results: Mey 1, 1994 (Round 3 of 11) MOTO 1: 1. Bob Moo", (ya m); 2. Alesalo Chi od i (Ron); 3.
