BROWNSVILLE, PA, APR. 24
ea m Yamaha's Fred Andrews
recorded his second cross country National win of the four-raceold season by out-driving KlM's
Scott Plessinger in the rush hour
traffic of Brownsville City Park
in southwestern Pennsylvania. After
nearly three hours of racing through the
crowded forests and fields of the park,
Andrews, the defending GNCC Champion, got a break when he needed it most on the last lap Plessinger, Andrew's closest challenger, got knocked to the ground
by a lapped rider.
"I felt like 1 gave Loretta Lynn's awa y
to Scott (plessinger) and Rodney Smith,
but toda y it was my turn to have things
go my way," said a tired but enthusiastic
Andrews. "We were right there together
but this time Scott had bad luck at the
Y
end, not me. "
Plessinger (and Sm ith) bettered
Andrews at Loretta Lynn's when he got
stuck on a hill at the very end of the race.
This time Plessinger's bad luck came in
the form of a last-lap incid en t with a
lapped rider that allowed Andrews to
slip away once and for all
"We ran together all day long but it
just didn't work out for me in the end,"
said Plessinger, who hails from Ohio , the
same state as Andrews. "We were both
riding strong and smart but 1 just had
one more problem with a lapped rider
than he did."
