APR. 16 Over 120 intrep id riders of vintage motorcycles gathered at Muddy Creek Raceway for round three of the AH RMA/ Vinta ge Iron Motocross National Series. Against all od ds , the Victory Spo rts-prepared track was nea rly perfect. Somewhat sloppy during practice owing to an all-night rain , the circuit was dried quickly by the steady 20-25 mph wind. Rick Doughty of Vintage Iron Interna tional wa s one rider wh o w asn ' t bothered much by the weather, bu t he was hampered by machinery. "The br ake pedal on the BSA stuck during the Sports man SOOcc A race," Doughty said. "So I was advancing ba ckwards the whole time, and of course the clutch burned up because it was working so hard trying to overcome the d rag." W inner o f numerous v int ag e cham pionsh ips, Doughty finis hed an uncharacteristic fifth overall in the Sportsman SOOcc A class. But he made up for that by w inn ing Sportsman OpenTwin A. I Ohio's Mike Boggia traveled nine hours from the Youngstown area to try his luck in Sportsman 12Sec Expert and hit paydirt. Boggia racked up double-moto wins aboard his 1974 Honda 125 Elsinore. Backed by WKR/Steve Dorecamper/Hombray's, Boggia is new to the vintage series. "So fa r, either 1 do pretty well or the bike breaks," Boggia said.
