APR. 10 Randy Anderson ha ndled the mud ho les, th e over-saturated wh oops, the sloppy do ubles , and most of all the competition on his way to a conv in cin g win in Ca liforn ia Racing Club's Ve t Novice class at the Gelen He len ORV MX track. Rain left the track a virtual quagmire for the early mot os and w as slip pery, a t be st, for the later ones , but the eRC crowd was there to race .. and race they did . When the gate fell to start mo to one, Anderson limed it per fectly to lead the pack ou t onto the cha llenging course. Donnie Quanstrom and Billy Womack were dicing for second with John Pin d a rd ca tching all of th eir roost in fo u rth p lace. The m ud was taki ng its to ll on th e Ve t Novices and by moto's end, the winner, Anderso n, h ad th e on ly clean jersey in th e No vice ra nk s . Womack had wo rked the mud to hi s advantage and p owered his way th rough the slop to finish second ahead of Quanstrom, whi le Fred Tu ttle an d John Stich compl eted the leaderboard. Womack gra bbed the holeshot in mot o two and w ith the track in far beller shape than for the first moto, Anderson had to wo rk up from a fifth-p lace start. On lap three, An derson found enough extra speed to move into second behind Womack, an d with Stich hu ggin g Andersen's rear fend er, the race was on. At th e halfway po int, Anderson found himself ou t front with Woma ck running third after a bobb le in the back section. Everyone was in the follow-the-lead er mode for the next couple of laps, but as And erson took the white flag everyone seemed to tum up the wick a notch or two. Stich closed to the rear of Anderson's Yamaha, and then Woma ck jammed his wa y by St ich in the valley section o f th e course. The positions seemed to be set as the riders came onto the grands tand section of the course, and then rid ers began to fall. First, Womack had problems with a slick com er and Stich went by. Then , Stich and a lapper went do wn in the last comer. Womack was again in secon d, following Ander son across the line. Stich, Gary Will and Quanstrom rounded out the top rid ers in moto two. . With a pa ir of firsts, Anderson won the class and Womack was second overall. Qu anstrom coupled his firs t mo to third with a fo urth in Roy Schellanberger was the winner In the 250Cc Expert class at tha Burleson MX. moto two for third overall followed by Will and Stich. .
