Moural, Nye dominate Cyc1eland Euro-Cross By Rex Harris CHICO CA, MAR 2ll , Honda-mounted Lowell Mou ral Jr. and Kawasaki p ilot Eric Nye, domina ted the 125cc and 60cc class es, respectivel y, at th e fourth a nd final round of Cycleland 's Eu ro-Cross series. Warm weather gree ted the rid ers, and a new tra ck layout gave them severa l new obs tad es tq deal with this week . The long. euro-style track now spo rts a monster double jum p an d a nas ty whoo p sec tion that would be a t ho me on any AMA supcrcross track. . By the lime the riders lined up for the 125cc main, a steady sou th wind had turn ed what was a moist and tacky surface for the heat races, into a hard, slippery, and so mewhat d usty track by ma in event time. Hea t race winners Moural and Ian Rad ich led the charge off the line followed by Zach Schwatka, Tyee jack son and Danny Rutherford. jackson wa sted no lime passin g Schwatka, th en se t his sig h ts on Radich and Mour al, with those three setting a torrid pa ce for three. laps . Radich and jackson then coll ided ov er a tabletop jump, with both riders going down. Jackson wa s quick to remount, wh ile a slightly dazed Radich took a little longe r to get going. Both riders managed to sta y in front of the quickly closing duo of Schwatka and Rutherfo rd . With the laps w inding down, Moural opened up a comfortable lead that he would keep to the finish, jackson crossed the line a distant second followed by Radich and Rutherford, who had managed a desperate, last comer pass around Schwatka. who oompleted the top five. In 60c:c action, seven-y ea r-o ld Eric Nye showed the rest of the mini riders how it's done by grabbing the holeshot and riding to a convincing win. From the start. Daniel Fowler gave chase followed by Brent Triplett, Darren Benson, Brandon Corchero and Brandon Triplett. By the end of the first lap, Benson had shot past Brent Triplett for third and began closing on Fowler. Meanwhile, Brandon Triplett moved past Corchero to take over the fifth spot. On lap four, Benson went down, with several riders getting past before he was able to remounL At the finish it was Nye, followed by Fowler, Brent Triplett, his brother Brandon, and Corchero. Rainey's exciting win, combined with Team Lucky Strike Suzuki's Kevin Schwantz's fifth place finish, put Rainey ahead by 11 points.
