Floyd spent the res t of the moto d icing with J.D. Collins, who ultimately slipped by Floyd and crossed the finish line in second, just inches ahead of Floyd. "J.D. and I race together in our Ohio d istrict," said Dunaway. "I t is always a close race, just like today." Suzuki Motocross School, but perhaps the busiest person of all on tha t day was Su zuk i Sup p ort / Montgomery v ill e Cycles-backed rider Barry Carsten. Ca rsten, fro m Bayville, New Jersey, walked aw ay with number-one trophies in both the 125 and 250cc Expertclasses at the Worldsports-promoted even t, but the trophy earned in the 125ee class was, perhaps, the one he was most proud of. He battled with Michael McDonald throughout the final for a well-deserved victory. Carsten was the early leader, but was passed by McDonald in a switchback sec:tion. Carsten went on to win with McDonald holding on to second over Randall Harris and Shaw DunkaL Harri s led the early s ta ges o f th e 250cc Expe rt finaI over Carsten, but there was no stop ping the Suzuki rider. Once in to th e le a d, Carsten took off and recorded an easy win on his MSR/DG/ Sunstar / Dun lop /Scott/Castro/KPS/ Pro Spec /N Style/SoCal-sponsored RM25O. Carsten left Harris and McDonald to fight it out over second place, with · McDonald eventually getting the nod. "I came off the tabletop ju m p and knocked the bike into first gear by mistake," said Harris. "McDonald was on me and took over second." Harris finished third, ahead of Chad Coon.
