got stuck for a few min utes this morning and that cost me a little time, but 1 was able to mak e it up the rest of the day. 1 sta yed on the bi ke , rod e s m ar t and didn't have any problems. That's what it takes for me to do good - 1 have to have a real good day and everyone else has to have a bad da y." "It was another da y of chasing alligators and Jet-Skiing around on my Suzuki," joked the runner-up Hatch. "There was some severe hydro-planing and JetSkiing. You had to watch ou t for the palmetto roots because you couldn't see all day." Hatch added that his biggest problem was a bike that wouldn't start after taking in too much water. "Mark Hyde and 1 push ed it around for about 200 yard s before we got it started and that cost me about 25 or 30 seconds. While 1 was trying to make that up 1 threw it in to a log and bent my brake lever under, so that only made the situation worse." Hatch is backed by Am erican Suzuk i/ FM F / Acerbis/Moose/MotionPro / Trelleborg/ Power-BaI'/ RK/Exce!/ Pro-Taper/Thor/Bieffe/Smith. "This was the standa rd Alligator," sa id Hawkins, who ended up third overall with 13 points dropped. "Tough, wet....wet. It's a shame that the y d on 't have more people to work with to make us have more checks. They could change their p lacem ent a nd maybe ma ke th is thing a really grueling race, but 1 understand how hard it can be to get help at one of these thin gs." To add to what was for him a frustrating day, Hawkins missed two checks by just threeand five seconds. "Typical Alligator," concurred Russell, who wo und up 10th. "Ever since they came over to th is new place it's been we t, muddy, terrible. If it didn't rain for a month this place would be just as bad. Big 01' roots, mud, swam ps and stu ff. It wasn't much fun for me." "It was a marginal day for me," said Kevin Hin es, who finished fourth via 15 points. " 1 rode conservatively, made a mental erro r in th e morning and jus t didn't really attack. I'm still getting used to my CRE and this was a tough track to test on. It was dryer than last year but that doesn't mean it w as dry by any \ Any Questions? means." Finishing out of the top 10, but still with a smile on his face was three-time AMA National Hare & Hound Champion Hamel. "1 had a great time, e ven though there's a lot of trees, deep sand and mud ruts - and not a rock in sight," laughed Hamel after the enduro. " It was an incredible experience. At the end Larry . (Roesele r) and Ty (Davis ) came up behind me and passed me and we all just started rippin' through the last section. It was so much fun to ride with those gu ys." "1 decided to wick it up a little bit in the last section and make it interesting for me and my teammates," said Roeseler, who also finished out of the top 10. "1 knew the last section was going to be longer and tougher and it was my only chance to make up for a mistake 1 mad e earlier. Considering how wet it was, the club d id a good job . They co uld've checked ~ in a little better, maybe made it a little harder to gamb le, but it wasn't too bad. At least they kept us out of a lot of the bigger swamps." a 'Re n RE IRC USA 2851-8 Whipple Road Un ion City, CA 94587 A DIVISIONOF I N C A C r- - - - - ----------- - - - - - -- ------------------------, Attach Label Here For FASTEST service attach mailing label.
