Smith 's win was the seventh in his 600cc Supersport career and his second at Daytona Inte rna tional Speedway. "I'm jus t glad to be up here in Victo ry Lane for one more ye a r," Smith said. "It's a great place to win down here at Da yton a. All my fa mily an d frie nds have come down here to watch me race. We put on a ha rd ri de o u t there to day. These boys really ro de ha rd and smar t. I 'd lik e to com mend these guys for riding real smart. I was trying to get Steve (at the end). He had some real good lines corning out of the ch icane. I ha d to see What was go ing o n . Corni n g in to the chicane, I was hopping a ro u nd a li t tl e . They were probabl y a little afra id to get in there w ith me since my b ik e w as moving a round a littl e bit - but I sm oothed on out a bit. I tried to follow and make a plan for the end . It jus t happen ed to work out for us." "There was a lot of changing of positio ns out th ere, a lot of d irty rid ing," Crevier said in Victory Lane. "I've never seen so mu ch bumping and grinding. I d idn ' t take any pa rt of it. I just ran my own race. I thou ght I had him (Smith) at the end. I thought it was the right thin g to do, but I just assis ted Smith in a victory. It was the last lap off the banking and everybody was backing off. I knew this time I wasn't going to lead , but we let Jamie lead into the chicane. Everybody knows that if you lead into the chi- I cane, you're going to lose the race. The I draftin g is so important here. These gu ys were riding so hard, especially in I the first tum. They were just blowing by. I was thinking, 'They can do that for . a while, but they can't do that forever. I They're goi ng to scrub off their fron t tires a nd fall down.' But nob od y fell down. It was just a hell of a race. I gave it my best shot." (X Daytona International Speedway Daytona Beach, Florida Results: March 13, 1994 600cc SU PERSPO RT FINA(., 1. Mike Smi th (Hon); 2.
