GA, FEB. >6 First- year Expert john Blessed set the pa ce for the opening round of Southeast Region Championship Cup Series racing by laking three wins at Roebling Road Racewa y. . The entire weekend was a rain -soaked affair, but Blessed sp las he d hi s way around the 2.2 mile cou rs e fas ter tha n second- p lace fin ishe r Michael Crepeau in the GTU class for win number one on Saturday. Not only di d Blessed ride w ell in the downpour, he used his brain to boo t, pulling off two last -lap, last -tum passes to win over Bill Zear ly in Middleweigh t and Heavyweight Superbike classes. Zearley was able to avenge himself by laking Mike Reed b y a wheel at th e li n e in Middl ew eigh t Su p e rsport, nudging Reed o ut of so me serious contingency bucks from Kawasaki in the process. Florida 's Richie Morris, who had crashed earlier, must have been watching all of this las t-lap stu ff · he caught Lee Frank, after Fran k had led the race up to the las t tum, to pass him for the win in the Ughtweight Supersport class . Frank Kinsey p roved he's not getting older, he's ge tting better, exhibiting a light touch on the throttle of the big l OOOcc Yamaha to cruise through the rain for a con vincing victory in the Expert GTO class. Ama teur racin g was fas t an d furious wi th the top yel low-plated riders from all over the country slogging it out. Second-season rider joe Warren took two wins on his CBR, edging ou t fast Floridian jam es Bronson, Larry Dodson, and Charles Brank for wi ns in both Middlew eight and Heavy wei gh t Superspo rt. Double w inn er Cr a ig Westwood, rid ing out of the Sadowski Racing stable, proved his wo rth on the Yama ha Seca II in bot h the Lightweight Sup ers port and Superbike classes. Tripl e R Racing's Mark Reed came on like a light in the Midd lew eight Superbike race, moving from ninth to seven th to third and passing first and second pla ce at the stripe to win on his Kawasa ki 600.
