cooped up in his Winchester ho me for
days, and he was more than happy to
spend a few minutes on the phone with
a friendl y voice. . .
How long have you been racing as an
Expert?
Well, this is my 13th season, and I'll be
31 years old in May.
In most physically demandin g s ports
like moto rcycle racing, it seems that
youth is an advantage. But you seem to
be improvi ng as yo u get older.
Well, a lot of that has to do with experience gained. And there's not a whole lot
of ne w yo u ng g uys comin g in to the
sport. Just look at what Ricky Graham
did last year. He's older than me and he
had the best season of his car eer , That
ju st gi ves me more in centive to keep
pushing harder. Last year was my best
season also, and I'm gonna push even
harder this year.
Well, just how important would you say
youth is, in the sport of dirt track racing?
Well, it's nice to be you ng, but no ma tter
what you do - in this sport to really run
up front, wha t you need is expe rience. I
finally have all of that, and I really have
a good chance to run up fron t on a regu lar basis. The re may be a cou ple gu ys
who have come right up the ranks and
, jumped right into the head of the pack,
bu t I'll tell ya - for nine out of 10 guys
it's gonna take them a few years to get
u p in the fr on t. Now I' ve had so me
p roblem s in the p ast, a n d m a ybe I
should be doing even better than I am,
but I've pu t all that behind me and I'm
focus ed and ready to be up front on a
regular basis.
