Bowyer, Vallejoclaim Guthrie Arenacross By Kat Spann GUIlIRJE, OK. JAN 16 . Team Green/Fox Racing /Ga ry Emig /BeIl / PJ1sponsored Andy Bowyer dominated the 250cc B a nd 250cc Open main ev en ts w hile Team G reen /LCS /Ka w asa ki of Pas ad en a -backed Erick Valle jo claime d the 125cc Band 125cc Open ma ins during Mike Kid d's AMA Ama teu r Arenacross at the Lazy E Arena. Don ald Hardy h ol esh ot the 125cc B main wi th Suzuki-m ounted Coby Sharp an d Vallejo giving chase. Hardy held down the nu mber one spot into lap two before Vallejo, who had ove rpowered Sharp, we nt after Hardy in the long section of whoops and took over the lead before launching off the big doub le. Waylon Utchfield had worked his way up thro ugh traffic into fifth p lace an d diligently chased the front-runners, passing Sharp for third whi le Vallejo and Hardy co ntin ued their battle for the lead . At the finis h, Vallejo scored the win followed by Har dy, litchfield, Mike Boliver and Bowy er. The 250cc B main was slated to be an excellent event after Todd Kirby d omin ated heat one, and Bow yer and Hardy dominated heat two. Bowyer h o leshot the start of th e main with Hardy in seco nd , and Boliver and Kirby racin g for third. Bowyer dominated the first tw o laps over Ha rdy as Boli ver pu shed Kirb y back to fourth. A three-wa y battle for fourth developed a mong Kirby, Scott Mericle and David Casada, with the racers swap p ing spots thr oughout the race. At the finish , Bowyer took the checkered flag for the win. Kirby finished second ahead of Mericle and Casada. By the time the 250cc main event cam e to the gate, Bowyer was ready to shoo t for a second win. A ft e r the g a te dropped, Bo li v er b eat Bowyer to the first tum, but Bowyer exited the tum in the lead . As Boliver chased Bowyer, Alan Bell and Jason Artinger battled fo r third. Bell was relen tless in his p ursuit, bu t Artinger held third at the chec kered flag. Bowyer was never headed, leading Boliver across the line. The 125cc Open main was the last race of the day, and Bowyer again hoJeshot and led the race with Vallejo in tow . Bowye r held his lead ove r the second do uble, but he missed a gear on land in g and Vallejo shot up unde rnea th him in the next tum to take over the lead and score the win. Results so MO D: 1.
