Dobb held down second, ahead of Moore, Schmit and Bader Manneh. Hughes returned for a piece of cake in th e 250cc Pro class, and rode circles around the competition as he posted a doub le-moto massacre. Dobb and Schmit traded positions in each moto with Dobb getting the nod for the runner-up spot. Hughes decima ted the competition in the 125 and 250cc Pro classes with an imp ressive four-moto sweep aboard his Tea m Splitfire /Hot Wheels/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki machines. Hughes' 'd ay began on a so ur note when he ra"n in to the b ack of 'ailOther rider at the sta rt of (the first 125cc Pro moto, Hughes went down, and without hesitation picked himself up and carved a straight path towards the leaders . Hughes rounded the first lap in 13th, while Bobby Moore, Greg Schnell, Don Up ton, Donny Schmit and James Dobb O .s ,1 scrambled for position at the front of the pack. Schmit was the first to strike, and moved past his rivals to take control of the lead. Once into first, Schmit pinned his Chesterfield Yamaha and began to open a small lead over Moore. Upton began to slide backwards when Mike Metzger powered his NCY Yamaha into fourth and began to work on Dobb for third . ' But just as Metzger began to pressure Dobb, Hu ghes came out of nowhere and gobbled up both Metzger and Dobb in one fell swoo p. This whet Hughes' appetitite, and he went on to devour the rest of the pack with relative ease.Hughes took over the lead wi thIittle resistan ce from Schmit and began to pull away. Hughes styled for the crowd over every jump and greeted the checkers well ahead of Schmit, Moore, Dobb and Schnell.
