(Right) Micha el Ray Craig loo ked strong aboard his factory Yamaha , but pulled off with a nagg ing tailbone Injury. (Below) Emlg earned $5000 for his win. (Below right) Erik Kehoe (15) battled with Jeff Matlasevlch (21). Kehoe finished sixth, Matiasevlch was fourth. Craig ran third for most of the race u ntil sudden ly p ulli ng off th e track. According to Craig's new tu ne r, Brian Lunniss, "He h urt his tail bone during a practice session a week ago . It started to hurt so instead of risking further injury we decided to pu lI him out." Taki ng advantage of Craig's misfo rtune was Team SplitFire's Ryan Hu ghes, who settled into the third-place position. Matiasevich, meanwhile, was on the move af te r his ea rlier crash. 'H e h ad soon moved up into fourth after passing Honda of Troy's Erik Kehoe. " It took a little while to catch back up but once I cau ght those guys they were easy to pass," said Matiasevich. Once into fourth, there was too much d ista nce be tw een him and third-place Hughes to ad van ce any further. Emig whipped his Yamaha over the fi n ish line d o u bl e jump to ta ke th e checkered flag going away. Lamso n settled for second followed by H ughes, Ma tiasevich, Team Noleen/Sizzler/ Xtreme/Yamaha's Larry Brooks an d Kehoe. "I didn't say too much but I've been really sick all week," said Emig afterwards . "But once I got going I fe lt smooth and everything just worked perfectly." Hu ghes was the iron man of the da y. He ca me off the track after the 2S0cc race and 40 minutes later was back at it ag ain in the 12Scc feature. He grabbed the lead from Bader Manneh on the first lap, then lead th e next six laps of the 12Sec main event before getting passed by a very determined Damon H uffman of Team Suzuki. "I sprained my ankle in practice so I sat ou t the 250s," said Huffman. " I think Ryan might've gotten tired because he bobbled and landed into the face of the second jump over ,a small doubl e, so I just jumped by him. " From that point on, it was Huffman all the way, as he styled to the victory . Hughes kept Huffman in sight the re main de r of th e rac e but never came close en ou gh to mount a serious challenge . Honda of Tro y' s Craig Decker an d Team NCY's Donald Upton banged bars all race long with Decker eventuall y secu ring th e third sp ot after out-jumpingUpton. Early race lead e r Bader Manneh faded back to fifth in front of Tommy Clowers, Joel Alb re ch t and Dave Pin gree. a Perris Raceway Perris, California Results: January 2, 1994 sx 250: J. lett Emig (Yam) ; 2.
