([N!ffi ~ It was a day not soon to be forgotten for young Dylan Lord w ha d ug deeply for the overall victory in the 60cc Novice class d uring the final round of the GFI Fall Se ries at Perris Raceway. Lord announced before the day 's race that he would be riding in memory of his grandmother, who had recently passed away. "I loved Grandma Fraser; she really liked motorcycles," Lord said. "And she supported myracing." Like a young man on a mission, Lord went to work from the start of the first 60cc Novice mota, taking the lead by the start of the second lap . Ea rly race leader Ross Ga rcia stalled his bike after he overshot the turn near the start line area , and dropped back to third behind Austin Jones. The top three rema ined unchanged to the finish with Lord taking the moto win followed by Jones and Garcia. The second mota saw Lord and Ryan Ricard wheelie side by side out of the starting ga te, both in hopes of the holeshot. Ricard had problems and crashed befor e the first tu rn, wh ile Aus tin Jones and johner Fau lkne r went wide and took the lead spo ts. Lord q uickly moved into second, fo ll owed by Chris Rog er s, as Faulkner slipped back to fourth. Jones seemed to favor the no w rou gh er and mor e ru tted race course, and began to extend his lead . Garcia was charging from a dead last start and was poised to make a move. Ga rcia mad e short w ork of both Rogers and Faulkner, ma ving inta third, but when he went loo king for Lord and Jones they were long gone. As the mota wore on, Lord dug deep and began to chip awa y at Jones's lead; by the start of the last lap, he was set to make a move . Lord p us hed hi s Cycle Engi neering KX60 to the breaking point as the two riders funneled into the last set of turns before the finish line. Lord came in low and pushed Jones into the banners. Both riders locked bars , with Lord able to get on the gas sooner and sprint across the line for the moto and overall win. For Lord , it was a mission accomplis hed , and for Jones a heartbreak; he had to settle for second in front of Garcia , who was riding injured after a cras h in the 80ee Beginner race.
