En route to his seco nd overall Macau GP victory, the 31-year-old Hislop broke Carl Fogarty's 1992 lap record to beat Dunlop by 4.51 seconds on aggregate time from the two legs. Hislop finished third in the redflag sho rte ne d fi rst race an d th en w on the second leg by over seven seconds . Florida's Michael Barnes emerged as the top American finisher. The 25year-old finished fourth overall, the best American performance since Ke vin Schwantz won th e race in 1988. S 12 The event was marred by a threerider crash a t the notorious Lisboa corner in the first race. The accident put Canadian first-timer Michael Taylor in the hospital with multiple injuries. The 28-year-old from Toronto broke his arm and leg in several places, and also broke a shoulder blade, colla rbone and three ribs on the right side of his body. Taylor crashed and then was run over by Austrian Karl Truchsess and his Kawasaki superbike. Like Tru chsess, Jefferies was unhurt, but his 750cc Yamaha w as b adly d am a ged by th e im pact and he w as una ble to race in the seco nd leg of the eve nt, held later in the day.
