NOY.6 Neil Alonzo fina lly got h is first ove rall victory and didn' t have to win a m oto to do it. Consistency, along with a perfectly executed block-pass got him the 125cc Beginne r win during the FMF/Starwest Supercross Park Racer Appreciation Night. Alonzo gave it his all as he holeshot the first moto, leading the large pack of 1250 around the well-groomed Starwest course, but as he crested the scoring tower tabletop, the competition was closing. Johnny Aragon had gated second, and along with Kyile Finnels, was now ho unding Alonzo. Aragon soared up and over Alonzo on the "Kong Launcher," and then Finnels went to the ou tside to slingsh ot his wa y pa st Alonzo, demoting the Wood cres t Cy cle ride r to third. Alonzo's troubles wer e just beginning as Mark Damiter was now pressu ring for t h ird and duplicated Aragon's pass over the big jump to take th ird away. Alonzo seemed to get fired up ' and began to pick up the pace. Foll owing Dami ter through th e rockers, Alonzo sq ua red the comer and repassed Damiter for third.. A lap la ter, using the exac t same maneuver, Alonzo passed Finnels for secon d and closed on the leader. Time ran out as Aragon took the checke re d with Al on zo a few bik e lengths be hind him. Finnels came home third. Fin nels came out s mo king for moto two. Behind him were Damiter, Alonzo and the pack. Chris Kelly ",as running th ird, hold ing off the cha rge of Jamie Claba ugh, and the pair closed on Alonzo. Up fron t, Damiter h it the rockers with the th rottle open, passing Finnels a nd pulling away almost im med iately. Kelly follow ed suit, passing Alonzo in the rockers for RO KICKOFF ONA H-D 883 CHALLENG CAMEL CHALLENGE saturday. March 12 • BUDWEISER 600cc NATION Friday. March 11 P.o.
