big motor and was running a stock unit which, as it turned out, wasn't much of a disadvantage in the rain. Ten laps into the race, Team Kinko's moved into the lead over Team Suzuki. Yod er was now in th ird foll ow ed by Te am Su zuki Two. Vi rg in ia Breez e dropped to fifth. A red flag stopped the ra ce in th e first hour. . During the secon d hour, Yode r put the Dutchman Yamaha in the lead. It was a short-lived lead, however, as ten minutes la ter Yoder crashed and Dutchman dropped to ninth at the end of the second hour. The former AMA Champions eventually re-entered the race to finish fifth. Another victim of the wet track was Team Suzuki Two's Steve Patterson, who crashed just a few minutes before Yoder did. The Team Suzuki crew elected not to try to get the second team back in the race; they had too much to worry abo ut with the lead bike. Virginia Breeze took the lead in the second ho ur just ahead of Team Kinko's . Team Suzuki ran third. Duri ng the third hour, the Team Kinko's Yamaha started mis-firing. The riders wo uld bring the bike in, the crew would work on it, the n send them back ou t only to have the rider pull in again a .la p or two la ter. This went on for an agonizing.,15 or 20 mi n utes before an igni tion coil was finally rep laced . By the time the problem was fixed , Team Kinko's was way back in 15th p lace. Kinko's Batey and Tom Wilson worked their way back up to eighth by the finish. Team Suzuki sw itched to full rain ti res in the third hour and Hall took back the lead for good. In the closing minutes of the race, Szarek closed the gap with an ou tstand ing come -from-behind attempt by Virginia Breeze. When Team Suzuki's Martin came out of the pits for the final stint, Virginia Breeze was 50 seconds behind the leaders. Szarek pulled to within 30 seconds before stabilizing in the last 15 minutes of the race. Team Pearls Suzuki rode steadily along, ta kin g advantage of the other teams mishaps, and moved into the top three overall in the last hour. Team Pea r ls finished th e season as Me diumweight Supe rbike Champions and an outstanding thir d overall in the series. Northe rn Boys Racing won convincingly over Nicholson's AnnArbor in the Medi umweight Prod uction class. Nicholson's second-place finish was goo d enough, thoug h. The team of Dave Bloom and Steve Kok won the class title. TBA Racing won the Heavyweight Production race over Force Racing.
