By the second lap , John Hopperstad h ad moved up to fourth as t h e sun began to se t behind th e w est b anking an d he began to w ish he wasn 't usin g a dark shield. On the third lap Hopperstad was up to seco nd , then closing on Hough for a la p before taking th e lead goi ng into tum one to start the fifth lap. Th e p air made sh ort work o f the 47-rider field as they swapped the lea d back and for th for the next several laps setting up the inevitable last-lap sprint. On the white-fl ag lap, H opperstad followed Ho ugh onto the West Banking, motoring up next to Hough on the backstraigh t, with H ough leadin g into and ou t of th e chicane. I knew I nee ded to be on the low line coming to the finish. I had a race here a couple of years ago and I got bea t by a rider who chose th e low line.
