vie Childress and they settled in to a fast
p ace tha t br ou ght them closer to th e
lead pack.
Del-loo p - s po tted Brown's s tyle
throug h the step-up section and quickly
adapted. Soon, he was breathing down
Brown's neck. Their battle went down to
the wire, b u t Brow n fought off all of
De Hoop's pass attemp ts and he ld him
off for the moto win. .
DeHoop looked as if he were going
to take con tro l of 125 Pro mo to two as
the pack roared down the long start
straight to the sweeper into the firs t
tum, but he was involved in a major ge t
off in the sweeper. DeHoop remounted
quickly and began to reel in the pack .
Ty Harris took over and led Lough,
Carsten, Plotts and Brown. Harris made
a gallant effort to stay out front, but was
unable to run the pace required to hold
down a top spot. Brown and Neese
pulled away in the early stages of the
moto.
A t the half- w a y point Brown and
Neese go t past Lough, and they ba ttled
all the way to the flag. Brown nabbed a
narrow win over Neese, Plotts and
Lough. DeHoop was ab le to work his
way into 9th by the mote's end .
When the first 250cc/Open class
moto ripped off the line, Doug Stone led
the way with Lo ugh, Neese, DeHoop
and Jim Ch est er in tow. Sto ne led th e
first five laps before giving in to the blazing ba ttle between DeHoop and Neese.
Lough was locked in fourth, while
Brown and Carsten were going at it for
fifth . Brown's bike s tarted ac ting up
and left Brown with no choice but to
return to the pits.
Just as Brown was pulling off, Neese
crashed o ut in the back section of the
track, allowing DeHoop to run off and
hide from the rest of the field. DeHoop
cru ised home with an easy win over
Carsten and Childress. Lough held onto
fourth ahead of Stone, with Neese coming back to round out the top six.
DeHoop jumped ou t front at the start
of mo to two and set a blistering pace
from the ge t go, but Brown ma tched
him move for move. Neese followed the
d uo and suddenly smoked past bo th
DeHoop and Brown and opened up a
12-second lead. But just as quickly,
Neese's race came to an end when his
engine lost its coolant and seized.
Du ri ng Neese's r un at the win,
. Br own h ad sli pped past DeHoop for
second and was sitting in the righ t place
to inherit the lead when Neese d rop ped
out . DeH oop was holding down second,
bu t was un aw a re of a hard-charging
Dag Boyesen behind him. Boyesen ran
down DeHoop for second, but ran out
of time b efore he coul d challenge
