After reading the story, m y daughter, Kary Ann, asked me if I was reall y that unsuccessful when racing in Europe. While I d id break 18 bones during m y ra cing career (13 in the engineseizure crash in Japan), I never broke a bone w hil e racing Erv Kanemoto's bikes during my season of Formula 750 racing in Europe. I feel that my ra cing campaigns in Europe were fairly good. Of the Formula 750 races that I competed in, we won twice, finished second twice, fini shed fourth once and had three DNFs. We actually ended up winning the 750cc World Championship, only to have it taken away for political reasons in Venezuela. I hope to read more stories about the old days. I am writing th is letter as a pl ea to the AMA to reinstate the "b ig bore" class of motocross. I grew up with Brad Lackey, Mark McKay Lake Butler, FL Good luck, Damon Team Yamaha' s Damon Bradshaw taught me a lot about w inning . Although it's 90 percent attitude, a w inning attitude is only good when you use it. Wh en Damon takes his at titude out of his pocket he 's unbeatable. I think it takes a lot of g u ts for Damon to admit he hasn 't been on top lately. I have a feelin g the personal lulls in his life w ill be overcome and I don't think we've seen the last of Damon "The Demon" Bradshaw . We at the Olympic Pennesolia M / C wish Damon luck, and we know that w hen he's rea d y he'll be able to tak e on the big doubles that life presents. Bart Widman Pt. WIlPA ~dlffTION I would hate to see Harley-Davidson ge t into su per bike racing. Superbike racin g has been so competitive over the years, not only fo r the riders but also for th e m a nufac turers . You h ave Ya mah a, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda and Du cati all going for the number one plate. If Harley gets in to su perbi ke racing and can't win, the AMA and Harley will start changi ng the rules and that may possibly run the o thers out of th e series. The AMA and H arley-David son h ave already do ne that to dirt track racing. I would hate to see them do it to superb ike racing and ruin that part of th e sport too. Roger DeCoster, Ak e Jonsson and many oth ers as my he roes. The big bo res were their weapons of choice as they gunn ed one another down all over the world for fame and glo ry . I've come up with one possible soluti on. Since every manufacturer on the planet makes a 250cc bike, they could "kit" these bikes w ith a larger displacement top end, making the limit say 37Occ. The war of economics would be decimated on all fronts as the factories and privateers could simply change their top ends at the end of the 250cc season. This should make the class cost effective, more competitive, and fun for the motocross fans and competitors, bringing back the glory to the once proud Open class. Printed in U.S.A. Copyright" cyd.
